HANDBRAKE TURN USING ELECTRONIC HANDBRAKE – WILL IT WORK?
Will doing a handbrake turn with an electronic handbrake work?
As it becomes increasingly harder to find a car with a manual gearbox, it's also getting harder to come by a car with a traditional handbrake leaver. They all seem to be getting replaced with electronic handbrakes, which are either a button or a tiny little lever which resembles something you'd use to open your glovebox!
But, what happens if you driving along at speed and pull the electronic handbrake? Will it work the same as a traditional handbrake? Or will it even work better as it's electronically controlled?
Chris Harris takes a Golf R and finds out first hand what will happen. As he comes around a corner, he pulls the electronic handbrake up and... the car suddenly throws a warning on to the dash and comes to a rather sudden halt! No tyre screeching at all!
Unfortunately, with the introduction of electronic handbrakes, it has killed the handbrake turn.
