HOW A FORMULA 1 WHEEL GUN MAKES A 2-SECOND WHEEL CHANGE POSSIBLE
Everything in the sport of Formula 1 is precisely engineered to be as efficient as possible. The pit stop wheel gun is no different.
The latest design of Formula 1 wheel guns is the Super Gun 3. It works with compressed air and is electronically connected to the overhead Formula 1 pit stop gantry.
The wheel guns either loosen or tighten at the pull of the trigger, but there is no button to choose which method you want. As soon as you squeeze the trigger it will loosen the wheel, and the next time you squeeze it, it will tighten. This is designed to further save time and prevent making mistakes in a pitstop.
Furthermore, each front end engineer has a spare wheel gun on the floor next to them, at arms reach, in the event that their primary wheel gun fails.
