HOW COVID CHANGED OUR ROADS

COVID-19 has completely changed the way people drive, and statistics show that it will have a lasting effect too.

First of all, during the peak of the global lockdown, most major cities had the least amount of cars on the roads since the early 1920s. As a result, street racing climbed at an exponential rate.

So much, in fact, that there were new regulations implemented in a number of US States to have more cops on the road and more speed cameras working around the clock to help reduce it.

Secondly, the number of road accidents actually increased! The study shows that, even though there were fewer cars on the road, the average speed of drivers increased as much as 75%. This doesn't necessarily cause accidents, but rather that drivers were psychologically under pressure from the lockdown, tempers were much higher and so were stress levels.
