JAY LENO'S 1971 CITROëN DS – FRANCE'S NATIONAL CAR
Jay Leno gives us some insight into his 1971 Citroën DS and why it so special.
Launched in 1955, the Citroën DS was a groundbreaking car. It introduced innovations to the motor industry that had never been considered before, like that fantastic air suspension. In fact, Leno even says; "This is the most comfortable car ever made."
Other cool features include headlights that turn with the steering wheel and, staying with the lights, I bet you didn't know there's a small door that opens to allow you to clean the inside of the glass housing.
The front wheels are set further apart than the rear to improve aerodynamics, the roof is made of aluminium to save weight, and the brake lights sit atop the C-pillars so they can be seen easier.
This car is marvellous and Jay clearly adores it. In the video below, you'll see how to change the tyres without needing a jack, watch some of the insane television commercials from the time, and he tells us the story of how the Citroën DS saved the life of the president of France.
