K20 SWAPPED FD RX-7 – BETTER THAN ROTARY?
Take a look at this crazy K20 swapped FD RX-7 build, could it be better than the rotary engine?
The stock Mazda FD RX-7 will always take you back to the 90s JDM car scene, with its sleek looks and pop-up headlights, the last of its kind for Mazda before they brought out the RX-8.
Probably the most interesting part about the car is its engine. Mazda has always been innovative when it comes to engine technology, and have a hard time letting things go. The FD RX-7 featured a 1.3-litre (79 cu in) twin-turbocharged 13B-REW rotary engine. It came with either a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 4-speed automatic and was produced from 1992 to 2002.
What seems to make RX-7 fanboys cringe is when people do engine swaps to them. We have seen crazy builds, from LS swapped RX-7s right through to V8 swaps, but what we have never thought we'd see, even in our wildest dreams, is swapping out a 13B with a Honda K20!
