KIA'S EV2 IS A COMPACT ELECTRIC SUV TO RIVAL VW'S ID. POLO - AND IT JUST MAKES SENSE.
Not every new EV needs to be a tyre-shredding hero. Some just need to look right, fit real life properly, and make you think, “Yeah… I’d daily that.” Enter the Kia EV2, a compact electric SUV that slides neatly into Europe’s B-segment and brings big-brand EV thinking into a genuinely usable, city-sized package. It’s Kia’s smallest electric model yet, and arguably one of its most important. At roughly four metres long, the EV2 is designed for tight European streets, but it doesn’t shrink visually. Kia’s ‘Opposites United’ design language gives it an upright, confident posture that borrows cues from its bigger siblings, especially the EV9 and EV3.
The front end is defined by vertical daytime running lights and Kia’s latest Star Map light signature, instantly identifying it as part of the new EV family. A strong shoulder line, squared-off wheel arches, and clean surfaces keep things modern without tipping into gimmick territory. Wheel sizes range from 16 to 19 inches, and while the factory designs are fine, this is absolutely one of those cars that would transform with the right aftermarket setup. Some tasty 18s, lower profile tyres, subtle spacing, done. The GT-Line dials up the lifestyle angle with body-coloured detailing, high-gloss accents, and a more assertive lower grille treatment. It’s not pretending to be sporty, but it definitely looks sharper and more premium.
Inside, Kia has leaned into calm usability rather than flashy tech overload. The interior is inspired by a “Picnic Box” concept, which sounds like marketing fluff until you sit in it and realise it just means logical, friendly, and uncluttered. The wraparound dashboard enhances the sense of space, while fabric-rich surfaces and eco-conscious materials keep things light and modern. Front and centre is Kia’s triple-screen ccNC layout, comprised of a 12.3-inch digital driver display, a 5.3-inch climate control screen and a 12.3-inch central touchscreen. For an entry-level EV, that’s serious kit. The EV2 also introduces ccNC Lite, a more affordable version that keeps the same layout and core functionality while lowering the barrier to entry. Both systems support over-the-air updates and Kia Upgrades, future-proofing the experience.
Clever space is where the EV2 really earns its keep. A sliding and reclining rear seat system allows rear legroom to stretch from 885 mm to a segment-leading 958 mm. Slide the seats forward and boot capacity expands to 403 litres, backed up by a 15-litre frunk for cables and odds and ends. The 2,565 mm wheelbase allows for flexible seating layouts, including a four-seat option with independent rear seats. It’s compact on the outside but genuinely versatile inside, enough to function as a main household car rather than just a second runabout. Performance is as expected, the EV2 is offered with two battery options: a 42.2 kWh with a standard-range of up to 317 km, and a 61.0 kWh long-range option that offers up to 448 km of range. Both use a 400V architecture and support fast DC charging, with a 10-80% charge taking around 29-30 minutes depending on battery size.
Production of the EV2 will take place at Kia’s Žilina plant in Slovakia, alongside the EV4. Standard-range models enter production in February 2026, followed by long-range and GT-Line variants from June 2026.
