LAMBORGHINI AND THE ITALIAN POLICE PARTNERSHIP IS 20 YEARS OLD AND STILL GOING STRONG.
Automobili Lamborghini and the Italian “Polizia di Stato” are marking 20 years of collaboration - a partnership that began in 2004 with the delivery of a Lamborghini Gallardo. Over the years, this alliance has seen Lamborghini’s high-performance vehicles serve in crucial roles, from patrolling highways to transporting life-saving organs. These vehicles have completed over 200 organ transport missions and participated in more than 1,500 road safety education events, fostering a culture of safe driving across Italy. “We are incredibly proud to celebrate two decades of collaboration with the Italian State Police, an institution we hold in the highest regard for its work safeguarding citizens,” said Stephan Winkelmann, Chairman and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini. “Knowing our cars have supported critical operations and saved lives is deeply gratifying and reflects the strong bond between Lamborghini and Italy’s institutions.” This awesome collaboration has resulted in a 20-year partnership of High-Performance Service. Since the partnership’s inception, there have been a total of six Lamborghini models that have joined the Italian State Police fleet, each tailored for security and emergency operations. Kicking things off way back in 2024, the first Lamborghini to join the Polizia di Stato was the much-loved Gallardo 510-4, Lamborghini’s first production car with a V10 engine and a firm favourite here at SXdrv, evident by the black one parked at the SXdrv head office. It featured advanced technologies, including traffic monitoring systems and a refrigerated compartment for organ transport. Covering over 140,000 km during its service, the Gallardo was a reliable workhorse for patrolling and medical emergencies. In 2008, the next Lamborghini to sign up for duty was the Gallardo LP 560-4.
This upgraded model boasted a 5.2-litre V10 engine with 412 kW and a top speed of 325 km/h. It served primarily along Italy’s southern highways, equipped with advanced safety systems, a defibrillator, and refrigerated storage for organ transport. In 2014 the car was replaced with the newer, tech-packed mode in the form of the stunning Huracán LP 610-4. With its naturally aspirated 5.2-litre V10 engine producing 449 kW, the Huracán brought unparalleled speed and agility to the fleet. Its lightweight chassis and all-wheel drive made it ideal for high-speed operations. A standout moment came in 2023, when the Huracán delivered a kidney in record time, saving the life of a 57-year-old woman. It was in that same year that the instantly recognisable blue hue reserved for police cars made its way onto the company’s first SAV - the Urus Performante. The latest addition, the Urus Performante, combines the power of a twin-turbo V8 with the versatility of an SUV. Customised for law enforcement, it includes a secure weapon drawer, a defibrillator, and a refrigerated compartment for organ transport. Its striking livery, designed by Lamborghini’s Centro Stile, blends the classic “Polizia di Stato Blue” with white and tricolour accents. The partnership between Lamborghini and the Italian State Police highlights the brand’s commitment to innovation and social responsibility. Beyond the high-performance specifications, these vehicles have become symbols of public service, aiding in critical missions and promoting road safety. “The synergy with Automobili Lamborghini underscores our dedication to urgent organ transport and public safety,” said Vittorio Pisani, Chief of Police and Director General of Public Security. “With these vehicles, we can carry out vital services with speed and precision.”
