HYUNDAI N'S RN24 ROLLING LAB LOOKS LIKE THE COOLEST TOY EVAR.

At Hyundai’s annual N Day 2024, the high-performance N division took the wraps off the RN24, a cutting-edge "Rolling Lab" that’s rewriting the future of high-performance EVs. Known for its relentless innovation, Hyundai N is back with its boldest statement yet, blending motorsport DNA and groundbreaking tech into a small, rally-ready package. The RN24 embodies Hyundai N’s three core pillars: Corner Rascal, Racetrack Capability, and Everyday Sportscar. This trio defines Hyundai N’s unique approach to creating EVs that are as thrilling as they are capable. “Hyundai N is more than just a brand; it’s our promise to push high performance to new frontiers,” says Manfred Harrer, Executive VP and Head of Genesis and Performance Development. “RN24 is proof of our commitment to an electrifying future.” Starting in 2012 with the Racing Midship (RM) series and evolving through models like the RN22e and the retro-styled N Vision 74, Hyundai’s Rolling Labs have always blurred the line between track and street. RN24 is the latest evolution, designed to push EV boundaries with next-gen tech and motorsport-bred engineering. RN24’s compact, WRC-inspired chassis is more than just a nod to rally cars; it’s a game-changer. Hyundai took the motorsport-calibre 485 kW dual-motor system from the IONIQ 5 N and scaled it down to fit a more compact, agile platform, resulting in a nimble B-segment-sized powerhouse built for N-thusiasts. It’s not only about raw speed - RN24 is crafted for ultimate precision and drivability, with a redesigned 84 kWh battery and a shorter wheelbase for a more responsive feel on the road.

This little beast’s control system is a tribute to Hyundai’s World Rally Championship roots. A rally-style suspension, subframes with intense rigidity, and rally-spec dampers keep it agile, while a WRC Powertrain Drive Control Logic system allows drivers to adjust power, regenerative braking, and torque settings—all from the steering wheel. Even the sound design breaks new ground, with extra speakers on either side and a rear fender soundbox amplifying the soundtrack for an immersive, motorsport-level experience. Hyundai’s Rally Mode torque control, inspired by the i20 N Rally1, optimizes torque distribution across all four wheels. Combined with an innovative e-Handbrake, RN24 cuts weight by ditching hydraulic systems and introducing electronically controlled braking—tested in the latest WRC stages. The exterior features are equally motorsport-savvy, with a WRC-style roll cage, Elantra N forged wheels, and a TCR-inspired spoiler for enhanced aero and stability. Meanwhile, 3D-printed gussets boost rigidity while shaving off weight. “RN24 isn’t about chasing spec sheets; it’s about redefining what high-performance EVs can be,” says Joon Park, VP of N Brand Management. “This Rolling Lab shows there’s still vast potential for EVs to deliver an exhilarating, connected driving experience. With RN24, Hyundai N proves once again that electric motorsport isn’t just fast—it’s the future.

Take a look at the YouTube video from the recent N Day where Hyundai shows off all the cool things it does, including the reveal of the RN24, a rolling lab used to test innovations - but it also looks like a fun car and it has silly power on tap.
