MOVE OVER RESTOMODS, IT'S ELECTROMOD TIME - THIS 67 PLYMOUTH GTX IS WATTS UP!

Mopar's planning on taking the spotlight SEMA with some electrifying (see what we did there) new concept builds. The cars are proper head-turners, but our favourite is the muscle car with a different kind of muscle under the hood - the freaking stunning Plymouth GTX Electromod Concept. This is a smooth electric restomod that previews Mopar’s possible future e-Crate conversion kits that will no doubt see many classic project cars resurrected. Mopar has a vision of battery-electric classics all over the place, and what better way to get the idea out than to build one for SEMA 2025? The 1969 Plymouth GTX is finished in Frostbite Blue and it has a low, aggressive stance with subtly modern touches like widened rear wheel openings and a clean Satin Black trim. Custom body-colour bumpers blend seamlessly, while the Satin Black dual stripes and carbon-fibre hood pays homage to the classic look with a modern twist. Riding on a lowered 3-link suspension, it rolls on 18-inch Vintage Bronze forged magnesium wheels that highlight the Wilwood calipers behind. Mopar updated the fuel cap as a charge port door for that vintage-meets-future vibe. Under the hood, you’ll find the proper update for the car and the reason it was built in the first place -  a scalable 400-volt, 250-kW electric drive module that creates 246 kW with a 3:1 gear reducer for the rear wheels, all while packing a 400 km range. The power unit is mounted using Mopar Blue brackets crafted from 6061 aluminium, balancing weight and durability for ultimate efficiency. On the supply side, a total of 73 kWh comes from four lithium-ion battery packs: three cartridge-style packs securely mounted in the boot for easy access, with a fourth tucked below the low-profile radiator up front to improve balance and weight distribution. All the battery packs feature custom closeouts to keep that custom look that true restomod fans expect.

Inside the Electromod, Mopar’s designers created a fully reimagined but modernised GTX, combining retro touches with the latest tech. There’s a new driver interface that offers up custom gauges, from a 250 km/h analogue speedo to real-time battery levels and motor coolant temps. The steering wheel is great, it features a flat bottom, is leather-wrapped and sports a bronze “Omega M” badge in a nod to the original Plymouth hub. There’s a rotary shift knob from the Dodge Durango brings gear control to the modernised centre console, while an integrated cupholder from the Jeep Grand Cherokee provides a spot to keep that blue Energade. IndiGo Blue leather and Vintage Bronze accents tie the look together, from the manual window winders to the stainless-steel pedal covers. The low-back seats have been replaced with bolstered-up Jeep Wrangler seats, which fold forward for rear access, establishing a timeless 2+2 seating layout. Mopar’s GTX Electromod Concept is an awesome blend of heritage and innovation, taking one of the Plymouth brand’s most well-loved muscle cars and giving it an electric powertrain built for the future. It’s a clever move from Stellantis because with the way the world of motoring is headed, there may come a time when petrol-powered cars are banned or so highly taxed that no one can use them. Having a drop-in electric powerplant available to the end-user will surely translate to a decent revenue stream. That said, we’re sure other major manufacturers who have legions of classic models still out and about on the world’s roads will follow suit. There are already some smaller companies creating drop-in EV solutions for some popular classic cars, so Stellantis is on a good future-proofing run.
