NEW 2020 VOLKSWAGEN GOLF 8 R SPOTTED TESTING AT NURBURGRING

The new 2020 Volkswagen Golf 8 R has been spotted going through its testing at the Nurburgring, here are photos and what we know.

After the recent unveiling of the Volkswagen Golf 8 GTI, the attention has shifted to the highly anticipated Volkswagen Golf 8 R, which has been spotted testing at the Nürburgring out of its prototype geometric camouflage disguise.

These images show the new Volkswagen Golf 8 R going through its official testing phase at the legendary Nürburgring in Germany in all its glory. These pics are the world's first official view on the look and style of the exterior of the new Golf R.

Similar to the previous Volkswagen Golf 7 R, the Golf 8 R has bigger front air intake vents in the front bumper, which has a similar design to the Golf 7 R. The new 2020 Volkswagen Golf 8 R also features quad exhausts and Volkswagen Golf R spec wheels, with the iconic blue R brake calipers. The Golf 8 R will also feature a bigger rear spoiler and a brand new racing seat design, with coloured inserts, to give the interior a completely new feel and more performance and racing oriented look.

The variants of the Volkswagen Golf 8 such as the Golf 8 GTI, Golf 8 GTI TCR, Golf 8 GTE as well as the Golf 8 GTD, had their performance specs leaked, but no official confirmation has been revealed for the new 2020 Golf 8 R. It is rumoured, though, that the 2020 Volkswagen Golf 8 R will feature 329bhp, which will be a 33bhp bump in power from the previous Golf R, from the highly boosted EA888 2.0-litre engine.

Like previous Golf R versions, the Volkswagen Golf 8 R will also deliver its power over a Haldex four-wheel-drive system, and will only be available in a 7-speed dual-clutch (DSG) gearbox. The newer version of the Haldex four-wheel-drive system will offer more stability and drive modes for the Volkswagen Golf 8 R, as well as more adaptable traction control modes with speculation around Volkswagen offering a drift mode with the Golf 8 R.

Although no official date has been confirmed for the unveiling of the new 2020 Golf 8 R, it's one car not to be missed! The launch date of the Golf 8 R is expected to be somewhere in the second half of 2020. With that said, there is speculation around Volkswagen introducing a more highly powered version of the Golf 8 R, rumoured to be called the Volkswagen Golf 8 R Plus, which is expected to produce over 400bhp!
