OPEL TURNS THE SPOTLIGHT TO 2026 - ASTRA LEVELS UP WITH SHARPER STYLE, SMARTER TECH AND SERIOUS SUSTAINABILITY.
After a massive year that saw Opel’s SUV family - from Mokka to Frontera to the Grandland Electric - storm into the market, 2026 shifts the brand’s momentum back to one of its most important pillars: the Astra. Designed, engineered and built in Rüsselsheim, the compact-class hero is stepping into the new year with a sharper suit, smarter lighting, elevated comfort and a major leap in sustainability. The full reveal happens at the Brussels Motor Show from January 9-18, 2026, but Opel is already lifting the curtain on what’s coming. Front and centre is the Astra’s fresh face, which introduces an illuminated Opel Blitz on this model - a glowing centrepiece within a redesigned, more technical version of the trademark Opel Vizor. Add in the new Intelli-Lux HD lighting system, standard Intelli-Seats, and a cabin built entirely from recycled materials, and the Astra is shaping up to be Opel’s boldest, most forward-thinking evolution yet. The fully electric Astra Electric also gets a meaningful boost, now capable of up to 454 km between charges. “Sharper, more modern and more sustainable,” says Opel CEO Florian Huettl - and he’s not kidding.
Opel fans with an eye for detail will spot the inspiration immediately: the Astra’s refreshed styling takes cues straight from the Corsa GSE Vision Gran Turismo concept. The signature Vizor is slimmer and more precise than before, and at its centre is the illuminated Opel Blitz - a jewel-like emblem that signals the brand’s newest design direction. This glowing badge forms the hub of the newly enhanced “Opel Compass” light signature, with horizontal lines stretching into the headlights and vertical accents carved into the bonnet crease. The effect is crisp, modern and unmistakably technical, giving the Astra a leaner, more athletic stance. New 17- and 18-inch wheel designs, plus fresh metallic shades like Kontur White and Klover Green, complete the update. Optionally pair them with a contrasting black roof, and you’ve got a compact car that looks more concept-car-cool than commuter.
Borrowed from the flagship Grandland and tuned for the Astra, the new Intelli-Lux HD headlight system brings supercar-level precision to the compact class. Each unit packs over 50,000 elements, allowing the beam to reshape itself instantly and more accurately than any previous Opel matrix light. It can mask out oncoming traffic with millimetre accuracy, extend lighting where the steering points, and even deploy an extra side module for corner illumination so drivers don’t plunge into a “black hole” when turning. Fog, rain-reflection correction, traffic-sign glare reduction - it’s all handled automatically. It’s safer, smarter, smoother on the eyes, and entirely digital. In a compact car? That’s a flex.
Inside, the Astra doubles down on clarity and comfort. The cockpit gets a cleaner, more intuitive layout, and every version - even entry-level - now comes standard with Opel’s all-new Intelli-Seats. These seats feature a central pressure-relief recess inspired by performance bicycle saddles, reducing tailbone strain and enhancing long-distance comfort. They are certified for ergonomics, making road trips feel less like endurance events. For those who want the full luxury spec, the options list includes AGR-certified seats with ReNewKnit™ upholstery, lumbar support, seat heating, massage function and memory settings. ReNewKnit™ isn’t just fancy - it’s a 100% recycled and fully recyclable mono-material, contributing to Opel’s ongoing push toward sustainability. Sustainability runs right through the cabin, from recycled fabrics to resource-saving surface materials. Opel’s “Greenovation” philosophy is more than marketing - it’s built into every touchpoint.
The Astra Electric leads the charge with a new 58 kWh battery, offering up to 454 km of range - roughly 34 km more than before. More importantly, it now offers Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capability, allowing drivers to power external devices like e-bikes or camping gear directly from the car. Perfect for weekend escapes, trackside tinkering or off-grid adventures. Despite the tech and design upgrades, the Astra remains a space-efficiency ace. Up to 1,339 litres of cargo space in the hatchback (with the seats folded) and up to 1,634 litres in the Sports Tourer ensure practicality stays core to the formula. The rear seats also retain their 40:20:40 split for flexibility.
