OPEL’S MEAN GREEN MACHINE: MEET THE MOKKA GSE – THE BRAND’S FASTEST-EVER EV
Opel’s electrification push just found a new poster child, and it’s wearing rally boots and a mischievous grin. Say hello to the all-new Mokka GSE - the fastest battery-electric Opel to ever hit the streets. Born from the high-energy world of electric rallying and packed with performance tech, this compact crossover is aimed squarely at drivers who want their EVs with a side of motorsport flair. Unveiled with aggressive styling and decent numbers to match, the Mokka GSE is the road-going version of the Mokka GSE Rally prototype. It promises more than just spirited commuting - this thing is built to deliver those OMG! moments that Opel has been teasing under the ‘GSE’ banner. Powered by a 54 kWh lithium-ion battery and front-mounted electric motor delivering 207 kW and 345 Nm of instant torque, it launches from 0–100 km/h in just 5.9 seconds. Flat out, it’ll hit 200 km/h, making it the fastest EV ever to wear an Opel badge.
“The new Mokka GSE brings motorsport energy to the streets,” says Rebecca Reinermann, VP of Marketing for Opel and Vauxhall. “With sharp handling, striking design, and pure electric performance, we’ve created a car made to thrill.”
Drawing heavily from Opel’s experience in the ADAC Electric Rally Cup, the GSE’s underpinnings are far more than just warmed-over Mokka bits. It’s a full-fat performance package featuring a Torsen multi-plate limited-slip differential, a bespoke chassis setup, and double hydraulic shock absorbers. Even the steering and braking systems have been fettled for sharper response, bringing a genuine motorsport edge to this everyday EV.
Weighing in at just under 1.6 tonnes, the Mokka GSE manages to feel light on its feet - a rarity in the world of electric crossovers. Drivers can select from three distinct drive modes: Eco for range-focused cruising, Normal for balanced use, and Sport to unleash the full fury of the electric drivetrain. Performance credentials aside, the Mokka GSE doesn’t hold back in the looks department. Finished in rally-inspired yellow and black accents, it wears GSE-specific aero pieces front and rear, along with exclusive 20-inch alloy wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport EV tyres. Bright yellow brake calipers peek through the wheels, proudly announcing this Mokka isn’t here to sip tea quietly. Step inside and it’s more of the same visual drama. The cabin is draped in Alcantara with bold yellow contrast stitching, GSE-embossed sports seats, and aluminium pedals. A new flat-top-and-bottom steering wheel promises direct feedback, while the 10-inch digital driver display and central touchscreen serve up everything from G-forces and performance data to battery management and acceleration timers - all in a dedicated GSE theme, of course.
Opel hasn’t yet pinned down the exact launch date, but the Mokka GSE is primed to shake up the compact EV game when it lands. With motorsport DNA, head-turning style, and real everyday usability, it’s a street-legal rally car with charging sockets. This one’s going to be fun, if it ever sees local shores.
