REVUELTO VS 750S - AN EPIC HYPERCAR DRAG BATTLE.
The Lamborghini Revuelto ushers in a bold chapter for the brand, marking its debut with a hybrid V12 plug-in HPEV setup that packs a serious punch. Lamborghini’s reputation as a favourite among tuners means we’ll likely see some wild power upgrades soon. Many already push the ICE components well beyond 2,000 hp, so the big question is: will the hybrid system limit that, or will tuners continue focusing on the traditional engine? The road ahead looks fascinating. Lamborghini’s embrace of electrification signals that a fully electric model might not be far off, but for now, we get to revel in the roar of the hybrid V12. Beyond the new powertrain, the Revuelto is an all-new beast featuring a carbon-fibre-laced chassis and cutting-edge tech innovations. It’s more than just a Lamborghini that looks stunning—it’s a forward-thinking marvel, highlighted by the advanced hybrid system that will no doubt influence Lamborghini’s future powerplant designs. The L545 engine, a 6.5-litre V12 tipping the scales at just 218 kg, produces 589 kW and 725 Nm of torque. Lamborghini claims this is enough to rocket the Revuelto from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.5 seconds, with a top speed exceeding 350 km/h. Helping achieve these numbers are three electric motors—one paired with the transmission and two at the front—pushing total power output to an impressive 736 kW (1,001 hp).
The new McLaren 750S is a high-performance machine designed to leave a mark. It’s the lightest, most powerful McLaren series-production model to date, and it comes in both coupe and Spider forms, broadening its appeal. The 750S sports refined aerodynamics, including an extended front splitter, sleeker air intakes, and a central exit exhaust reminiscent of the McLaren P1. A larger rear wing and upgraded cooling mesh add to its performance prowess. McLaren made significant changes to about 30% of the car’s components, focusing on trimming weight while boosting performance. In its lightest configuration, the coupe weighs just 1,277 kg, delivering a class-leading power-to-weight ratio of 587 hp per tonne. The Spider doesn’t compromise on weight savings either, with carbon-fibre construction for the retractable hard top, rollover system, and rear upper structure. As a result, the Spider tips the scales at 1,326 kg and boasts a power-to-weight ratio of 566 hp-per-tonne - another class-best figure. Under the hood, McLaren’s familiar 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 remains, but with refined tuning, additional boost, and a new dual fuel pump setup. The result? A potent 552 kW (750 hp) and 800 Nm of torque. Paired with a revised 7-speed gearbox, the 750S delivers staggering performance: 0-100 km/h in just 2.8 seconds, with 200 km/h achieved in a blistering 7.2 seconds. The Spider is only a tick behind at 7.3 seconds, showcasing serious speed in both variants. These are the new range-toppers from the respective automakers, and this begs the question, how do they fare in a heads-up race? Well, that’s where Mat Watson and the Carwow crew come in with another epic drag race to answer that very question.
