SINGER'S REIMAGINED 911 CARRERA COUPE IS A STUNNING EXAMPLE OF THE ART OF THE RESTOMOD
What happens when you take a 30-year-old Porsche 911 (Type 964), strip it down to its bones, and rebuild it with Formula 1-grade tech, aerospace materials, and craftsmanship worthy of haute horology? You get Singer’s latest masterpiece - the 911 Carrera Coupe Reimagined by Singer. This latest service offering from the California-based restomod royalty is everything you’d expect: meticulous, obsessive, and utterly breathtaking. It all starts when an owner sends their donor 964 to Singer’s facility, where it’s completely disassembled. What’s left is the original steel monocoque, which is then cleaned, inspected, and fortified using a chassis-strengthening process developed with the help of Red Bull Advanced Technologies - the same minds behind Red Bull Racing’s F1 domination. Using advanced simulation and structural analysis, Singer and RBAT created a composite-and-steel reinforcement system to increase torsional rigidity, setting the stage for the reimagined build.
Rob Dickinson: Singer’s Founder, Executive Chairman and Creative Director explains: “In the 1980’s you could order a new 911 Carrera with the pumped-up bodywork of the Turbo but powered by the company’s latest, naturally aspirated flat six. It became known as the Carrera with Super Sport Equipment. Our services reference this car and celebrate the era with a vision for an ultimate, naturally aspirated, G model 911, reimagined for the twenty-first century. At its heart is a remarkable flat-six, bringing together our learnings from the last fifteen years, and adding variable valve timing for the first time.”
“Together with owners we’re celebrating the heritage of the Porsche 911, both for those who read every press report about their hero cars as kids, and for those who were too young to know about these incredible machines the first time around. We only work with the best, so we’ve developed partnerships with companies that have built their reputations at the very highest levels of motorsport and the automotive world. We’re committed to ensuring that every car restored by Singer is an analogue jewel – beautiful and captivating to drive above all else.” says Mazen Fawaz, Singer’s Chief Strategy Officer.
At the heart of the restoration is a flat-six engine unlike anything Singer has done before. Co-developed with Cosworth, this 4.0-litre naturally aspirated gem features a revised four-valve cylinder head, variable valve timing, and - for the first time in a Singer project - water-cooled heads paired with air-cooled cylinders. The result? 310 kW, a redline north of 8,000 rpm, and a torque curve that’s fat across the entire rev range. A 6-speed manual gearbox with an exposed, raised shifter is available, built to encourage full engagement. Titanium exhaust? Naturally. You’ll want to hear every scream of that glorious flat-six. Handling comes courtesy of suspension developed for Singer’s turbocharged builds, complete with four-way adjustable dampers with electronic control and a driver-selectable nose lift. Carbon-ceramic brakes from the DLS program sit behind lightweight 18-inch centre-lock wheels wrapped in Michelin’s latest Pilot Sport rubber. Five drive modes - Road, Sport, Track, Off, and Weather - give owners control over the car’s behaviour depending on mood or road. Dickinson carries on: “Porsche offered the option of a wide-bodied, naturally aspirated G model 911 Carrera for drivers in the 1980s. The Super Sport Equipment package was intended for what Porsche described as ‘the connoisseur of high performance’, incorporating uprated brakes and suspension along with its purposeful appearance. If you wanted a whale tail you could have one, if you didn’t, that was possible too. We’ve used this as inspiration for our latest services and as a home for this special engine. Hans Mezger’s masterpiece – restored, reimagined and reborn – is at the heart of the car.”
Inside, it’s pure Singer - high-end materials meet analogue joy. Drivers can tailor every detail, from stitched and burnished leather seams to lightweight sports or track seats. The iconic 911 gauge cluster gets the full “high-watchmaking” treatment, and discreet tech keeps things modern without killing the retro vibe.
