MILLIONAIRE MAYHEM: BUGATTI CHIRON SUPER SPORT VERSUS. CHIRON PUR SPORT IN THE ULTIMATE QUARTER-MILE SHOWDOWN
When it comes to the world of absurdly fast hypercars with equally absurd price tags, few badges carry more weight than Bugatti. And when two of them line up side by side on a custom-built drag strip in the desert heat - well, you know something savage is about to go down. Mat Watson and the Carwow crew have done it again. This time, they’ve orchestrated an all-Bugatti battle royale between the Chiron Super Sport and its track-tuned sibling, the Chiron Pur Sport - a clash of titans where engineering precision meets brute-force power, and the results are glorious.
Challenger 1: The Chiron Super Sport
You know things are getting spicy when a car shows up with eight turbo-fed cylinders more than your average sports car. The Chiron Super Sport is a weapon - a 1,995 kg monster powered by a quad-turbo 8.0-litre W16 producing a pavement-tearing 1,170 kW and 1,600 Nm of torque. All that muscle is routed through a slick 7-speed dual-clutch and distributed to all four corners via one of the most advanced AWD systems on the planet.
It’s built for top speed, but it doesn’t mess around on the strip either:
0–100 km/h: 2.3 seconds
0–200 km/h: 5.7 seconds
0–300 km/h: 12.9 seconds
Claimed quarter-mile: 9.1 seconds
This particular example even features custom interior and exterior touches, but let’s be real - in a 400m dogfight, it’s all about what’s under the skin.
Challenger 2: The Chiron Pur Sport
The Pur Sport shares the same heart - a quad-turbo W16, but here it delivers a slightly tamer 1,103 kW (still with 1,600 Nm). What sets it apart is its purpose: while the Super Sport is tuned for V-max, the Pur Sport is built to dance - think agility, grip, and savage turn-in.
It’s lighter at 1,945 kg, and it’s packed with chassis trickery:
65% stiffer front springs, 33% stiffer rear
Custom dampers, bushings, carbon stabilisers
2.5° camber angle with bespoke tyres offering 10% more grip
A massive diffuser and fixed rear wing dial up the downforce
This car is all about controlled aggression - quick reflexes, sharp cornering, and the kind of steering feel that makes twisty mountain passes feel like home. But can finesse match force in a straight-line war?
The battleground is a pristine strip in Tilal Swaihan, thanks to the Al Ain Municipality - a purpose-built slice of tarmac tailored for safe, high-speed testing far from public roads. The event was brought to life with the help of Super Cars Majlis, with their killer lineup of exotic machinery, and Ryan Griffiths at Syvecs, the man behind the scenes helping wrangle these high-octane matchups into existence. Will the heavier, mightier Super Sport put its 100-horsepower advantage to good use and bulldoze its way to victory? Or does the Pur Sport sneak through with its lighter weight and chassis focus? That, friends, is something you have to see to believe. Head over to the carwow YouTube channel and watch the full video for the result - because when £10 million worth of Bugatti brilliance faces off on the strip, you don’t want to miss the fireworks.
Take a look at the YouTube video from the crew at Carwow as they continue their exploits in Abu-Dhabi where access to supercars and hypercars is at an all-time high because there are just so damn many in the country that has more bazillionaires than you can imagine: Bugatti Chiron Super Sport v Pur Sport: DRAG RACE | carwow
