America, the land of the free! Yes, they really mean that. It is the land where you can legally register a 5,000HP heavily modified drag racing car to drive on the roads provided it features a few side mirrors and the OEM taillights and headlights. How ridiculous is that?

It goes without saying that the owner, Rod Tschiggfrie, gets a lot of attention from the cops, and not in a good way either, however, he has the legal papers to prove that it is 100% abiding by the law!

Rod Tschiggfrie wanted to have a car that he could get out racing on the weekends, take it to car meets, all while using the vehicle as transport to and from those venues as well. He didn't settle for what anyone else would be happy with such as an R35 GTR, Lamborghini Gallardo or even an Audi R8, no, he opted for a 1984 Hurst Olds, which doesn't really strike you as a 5.80-second quarter-mile drag racing car...

However, a lot has been done to this specific sample. Rod Tschiggfrie built this car from the ground up with the intention of keeping it street legal and still keeping some creature comforts such as a stereo. As far as the performance goes, this 1984 Hurst Olds now produces over 5,000HP and does the quarter-mile in just 5.80 seconds at 260MPH!

And this beast of a car has now officially been titled the fastest street-legal car in America as of 2022
