THE MERCEDES-BENZ X MONCLER BY NIGO COLAB G-CLASS IS OUR KINDA CLASSY.

At the recent 'The City of Genius' event in Shanghai, Mercedes-Benz and Moncler revealed their ‘Past Forward. Where the Future is Driven by the Past’ campaign, marking the debut of the Project G-Class Past II Future. This striking one-off art piece, based on a 90s Mercedes-Benz G-Class, was crafted by legendary designer NIGO, who infused the iconic off-roader with fresh design elements to merge the past with contemporary culture. Alongside this reveal, the campaign introduced the new limited-edition G-Class Past II Future model, with just 20 units set for production. Attendees at the event were also treated to an exclusive preview of Moncler’s upcoming urban, gender-neutral fashion line, co-created with Mercedes-Benz and NIGO. Bettina Fetzer, Vice President of Communications & Marketing at Mercedes-Benz AG, explained the vision behind the collaboration: "NIGO’s immense creative talent and our partnership with Moncler are bringing the G-Class into an exciting urban context. The Mercedes-Benz G-Class Past II Future is a fresh take on 90s style, breathing new life into the iconic character that has made the G-Class a timeless favourite. This evolution from inspiring art to tangible products marks a major milestone in our collaboration, capturing the spirit of the present day."
The Project G-Class Past II Future art piece measures 4.5 meters in length, 1.9 meters in width, and 2.0 meters in height. It features a sleek matte two-tone colour scheme of olive green and grey, punctuated by bold black and gold accents. Iconic G-Class design elements are both preserved and reinterpreted, from the signature rear spare wheel and 90s-style black steel wheels to a foldable windscreen and a gold-coloured fuel can. Inside, the reimagined cabin includes a custom audio setup by Devon Turnbull, with removable boom boxes mounted on the convertible top. The checker-patterned seats nod to the heritage of the G-Class, while orange and gold accents tie into the fashion collection’s aesthetic.

The limited-production Mercedes-Benz G-Class Past II Future, featuring the same two-tone green and grey exterior and checker upholstery, continues the theme of blending past and present. The spare wheel cover bears the collaboration’s logo, and black accents, including the window frames and wheels, add a distinctive touch. The iconic bumper guard runs along the sides with “Past II Future” lettering, a motif echoed on the interior’s grab handle. Each unit will feature its unique production number inscribed on the centre console.
NIGO commented on his vision for the project: "For me, the 90s were a pivotal decade for culture and creativity, especially with the rise of electronic music and hip-hop, both of which embody urban style. I wanted to bring that energy into the design of Project G-Class Past II Future by channelling the era's legacy through a contemporary lens." Alongside the automotive reveal, the gender-neutral fashion collection, inspired by 90s trends and modern streetwear, made its debut. Following the event, the collection will be distilled into a capsule line available from April 2025. The pieces will include college jackets, hoodies, checked shirts, Bermuda shorts, as well as down and field jackets, parkas, and windbreakers, all with a vintage flair. The collection’s colour palette focuses on classic tones like blue, black, green, and white, accented with orange. Many pieces also feature intricate prints that blend archival imagery from both brands. Raw denim dominates, with standout items like a satin jacket that showcases the logos and visual identities of Mercedes-Benz and Moncler.
