THE STUNNING BMW M2 RACING HAS BEEN SEEN IN THE WILD - WE LIKE!
BMW M Motorsport's new entry-level racer, the BMW M2 Racing, made its highly anticipated debut this weekend with two major appearances. Fans got their first glimpse of the car’s new design at the DTM season finale in Hockenheim, while simultaneously, it faced its first real-world challenge at the Nürburgring Endurance Series in a gruelling 4-hour race on the infamous Nordschleife. Both events provided a striking showcase of BMW’s latest motorsport creation. Based on the BMW M2 production model, the BMW M2 Racing is designed to meet the technological and financial standards for an entry-level racing car. However, with development still in progress, final technical details will be revealed in 2025, ahead of its full debut in the 2026 season. During its unveiling at Hockenheim, the BMW M2 Racing sported the striking BMW M Motorsport livery, featuring cool "Easter Eggs" in the form of racetrack layouts and iconic track sections for fans to discover. But on the Nordschleife, it was all about business, as the car hit the track in camouflage for its first rigorous test session. Behind the wheel for the test at Nürburgring were BMW M works drivers Max Hesse and Jens Klingmann (both GER), with the car entered by FK Performance Motorsport. The test couldn’t have gone smoother, with the M2 Racing completing four solid hours on the track without a hitch.
Björn Lellmann, Head of Customer Racing at BMW M Motorsport, shared his excitement about the progress: "With the presentation of the new design and name of our entry-level car and the first rigorous test on the Nordschleife, the development of the BMW M2 Racing is moving into the next phase. The year 2025 will be characterised by many test drives, which aim to provide our customers with a perfectly prepared racing car from the 2026 season. The highest technological level, reliability, and above all affordability are our maxims for the BMW M2 Racing. We are aligning all our development steps with this. I am pleased that we were able to experience a successful kickoff this weekend in Hockenheim and at the Nürburgring.”
Max Hesse added: "It was a fantastic debut at the Nürburgring. The BMW M2 Racing was a joy to drive, especially on the Nordschleife. Our appearance definitely generated buzz among teams in the paddock, which is a great sign for the future. We’ve still got work to do, but it was a positive start.”
Jens Klingmann emphasized the test’s success: "The goal was to gather data and experience, and we did just that. Completing 27 laps without any major issues gave us great insight into the car’s capabilities. The mixed weather conditions were a blessing, allowing us to assess its performance in both dry and wet conditions. Now it’s all about analyzing the data and pushing forward in the next rounds of testing.Take a look at the YouTube video from R Supercars that shows off the all-new BMW M2 Racing on its first time out in public.
