THE NEW 2023 HONDA CIVIC TYPE R IS THE FASTEST FRONT-WHEEL DRIVE AT NüRBURGRING

So it seems that the new 2023 Honda Civic Type R is breaking records left and right, because this monster of a front-wheel drive, the most powerful Honda production vehicle ever to be sold in SA (not that we’ve really had many of the special versions here), has set a new bar for front-wheel drive cars by completing a record-setting lap time at the iconic Nürburgring Nordschleife in Germany. The Honda Civic Type R clocked in with an absolutely amazing time of 7 minutes and 44.881 seconds. As expected the lap time shows off the improvements to the dynamic performance of the all-new Civic Type R compared to its predecessor, which itself had some records under its belt for a time. Part of the credit goes to the Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 Connect tyres that were developed with Michelin using knowledge gained from the development of the Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S. These tyres, which are available through Honda dealers, improve the dry grip and exploit the well-balanced handling of the already stellar Type R. The Civic Type R also set a lap record at Japan’s famed Suzuka racetrack further proving its unbeatable combination of power, speed, and handling. The 2023 Honda Civic Type R is now the car to beat. I wonder what the VW Golf 8R would do, even though it has power to the rear wheels too.

Message from Hideki Kakinuma, Civic Type R Development Leader

"To our Civic Type R fans all over the world: Under the concept of 'Ultimate SPORT 2.0,' we developed the all-new Civic Type R with the spirit of 'going beyond our past achievements' and strived for the ultimate FWD sports car by refining the 'essential value' and 'emotional appeal' unique only to our Type R models.

Since the start of sales in Japan in September 2022, we have received numerous customer feedback from all around the world filled with amazement and joy, far exceeding our expectations. However, we still had one more mission to fulfill, which was to claim the title as the world's fastest FWD car with a record Nürburgring lap time.

Six years after the lap record was set by the previous-generation Civic Type R (FK8), we reached this new dimension as a result of all of the passions we poured in and all the advancements we made for this Type R model.

Finally, our wish to share this title with all Type R fans all around the world came true.

We sincerely hope that all current and prospective owners of the Type R will enjoy and love their vehicle with the pride we share with you."

Take a look at the YouTube video that shows the latest incarnation of the range-topping Honda Civic Type R absolutely blitzing the famed Nürburgring circuit to claim the fastest-ever front-wheel drive to attempt the racetrack record. When you're done with this video, check out the one that follows showing the in-car footage that not only shows how intense attempting a record around the circuit is, and that race drivers at this calibre definitely have a screw or two loose in their heads because daaaaaamn: 2023 Honda Civic Type R Sets New Front-Wheel Drive Nürburgring Track Record | Honda
