THE ONE-OF-ONE BMW M5 PEBBLE BEACH CONCOURS D’ELEGANCE HEADS TO AUCTION.

The BMW M5 story began in 1984 when the E28 M5 was introduced at the Amsterdam Motor Show after BMW's M division decided to take the luxury 5 Series sedan and infuse it with performance genes. The result was the world's fastest production sedan at the time and under the hood was a normally aspirated 3.5-litre inline-6 with 210 kW. It could hit 100 km/h in just over 6.5 seconds. The 2nd-generation E34 M5 arrived in 1989 and it also used a normally aspirated 3.5 litre inline-6 that was rated at 232 kW. The European market received an updated version with a 3.8-litre lump and 250 kW. The E34 M5 also introduced advanced technologies like adaptive suspension and electronically controlled damping, enhancing both performance and comfort. This generation solidified the M5's reputation as a versatile high-performance sedan. Our pick of the bunch is the E39 M5 which arrived in 1998. This one received a serious upgrade in the form of a normally aspirated 4.9-litre V8 with 294 kW on tap, and it was mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. This version featured an advanced suspension system, precise steering, and a luxurious interior, making it a benchmark for performance sedans. The fourth generation arrived in 2005 in the form of the E60 M5 which was completely different and featured some Bangle styling that you either loved or hated, The powerplant was insane, this M5 was given a normally aspirated 5.0-litre V10 with 373 kW on tap to make it rather supercar-like. It was given a 7-speed Sequential Manual Gearbox an electronically controlled limited-slip differential and advanced stability control systems. In 2011, the F10 M5 arrived with a twin-turbocharged 4.4-litre V8 engine with 412 kW on tap and with a 0-100 km/h shunt of just 3.7 seconds it was now properly in supercar territory. In 2017 the F90 M5 arrived with a new look and a new powerplant that was again a twin-turbocharged 4.4-litre V8 with up to 460 kW on tap, and for the first time, an M5 featured an all-wheel-drive system in the form of BMW’s M xDrive). The new G90 generation has just been released, and it embraces new technologies with an electronically-assisted twin-turbocharged V8 rated at 535 kW with 1,000 Nm of torque.

To get awareness of this new slice of awesomeness, BMW M, BMW Individual and Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance created a one-of-a-kind BMW M5 to be auctioned off during the upcoming Pebble Beach Automotive Week. The 2025 BMW M5 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance #1/1 will be the first 2025 M5 delivered in North America. This one-of-one M5 is finished in BMW Individual Frozen Orange metallic, inspired by the Pebble Beach sunset. The colour was set to be discontinued from BMW Plant Dingolfing prior to the start of M5 production, so the car had to be painted weeks in advance and is guaranteed to be the only one wearing this shade. The car also received hand-painted orange accents on the staggered 20/21-inch M Dual-Spoke Bicolor wheels, massive M Carbon Ceramic brakes with calipers finished in Matte Gold, the M Multi-Function seats are finished in Kyalami Orange and Silverstone Extended Merino leather, another discontinued combination ensuring exclusivity. The headrests in front feature the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance logo that was applied with an innovative new printing technology, just above the illuminated M5 badge. There’s also Carbon Fibre Silver Thread High Gloss trim with Dark Silver Accents, the 2024 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance is found on the dashboard with the “#1/1”, and the same is found on the front doorsills. The M5 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance #1/1 also has the Executive Package with an illuminated kidney grille, a power rear sunshade, manual rear side window shades, front ventilated seats, and Parking Assistant Plus, the Carbon Package including a CFRP roof panel, rear spoiler, and mirror caps. M Drive Professional adds two additional, track-oriented driving modes – DYNAMIC and DYNAMIC PLUS – designed to ensure the combustion engine and electric motor are both active and the cooling system is conditioned for track driving. There’s also the M Driver’s Package that raises the M5’s top speed to 305 km/h and an included 1-day high-performance driving class at a BMW Performance Center. In total, the 2025 BMW M5 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance #1/1 is fitted with over $57,000 worth of bespoke options. Much of the finishing was done by hand at the M works in Garching, the spiritual home of the M5 where the first two generations were largely hand-built. The 2025 BMW M5 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance #1/1 will be auctioned at no-reserve by Gooding & Company on Friday, August 16. All proceeds above the vehicle’s MSRP will be donated to the Pebble Beach Company Foundation, a charity that supports literacy and education programs for disadvantaged young people in Monterey County.
