THE POLESTAR 6 WAS REVEALED AT GOODWOOD - AND IT'S AWESOME!
A while back now, Volvo created Polestar intending to enhance its presence in the high-performance automotive segment and to spearhead its push into electrification. While the name is relatively new, Polestar actually began as a racing team, founded by Jan “Flash” Nilsson in 1996 under the name Flash Engineering which competed in the Swedish Touring Car Championship. In 2005, Christian Dahl acquired the team and renamed it Polestar Racing which then started collaborating with Volvo in motorsports and began helping with the development of performance variants of Volvo cars. This collab saw the creation of the C30 Polestar Concept in 2010 and the S60/V60 Polestar in 2013. In 2015, Volvo acquired Polestar, integrating it as its performance division. The acquisition aimed to create performance-oriented versions of Volvo's models, akin to BMW's M division or Mercedes-AMG. Polestar continued developing high-performance versions of Volvo cars, maintaining its focus on enhancing performance, handling, and overall driving experience. In 2017, Volvo announced that Polestar would become a standalone brand dedicated to high-performance electric vehicles. This move aligned with Volvo's broader strategy to transition towards electrification and sustainable mobility. Polestar's first car as an independent brand, the Polestar 1, was a plug-in hybrid GT coupe that debuted in 2017 and it set the tone for Polestar's blend of performance, luxury, and sustainability. Following the Polestar 1, the company launched the Polestar 2 in 2019, an all-electric fastback, marking its full entry into the EV market. The Polestar 2 has been pivotal in establishing Polestar as a key player in the premium electric vehicle segment. Polestar's creation and evolution highlighted Volvo's strategic vision to innovate and lead in the rapidly changing automotive landscape, particularly in the realm of electrification and sustainable performance. As you’d expect, 3 follows 2, and that’s what the company recently unveiled at the 2024 leg of the Goodwood Festival of Speed.
Polestar attended the Goodwood Festival of Speed to show its expanded model line-up with the new Polestar 3 and Polestar 4 electric SUVs joining the Polestar 2 centre stage. Star of the show is the Polestar Concept BST, making its global debut at the famous motoring festival. In the first glance paddock, the Polestar 3 and Polestar 4 are joined by the Polestar 6 Concept, marking the dynamic debut of the electric roadster concept. Thomas Ingenlath, CEO of Polestar said: “Now we are a brand with three models in production, it’s great to see them here together for the first time at a global event. Goodwood Festival of Speed is full of the most exciting cars and the most enthusiastic crowds, so it’s the perfect place for us to tease our Polestar Concept BST. This car is a demonstration of how far we can push our performance brand - Polestar turned up to 11, if you will - and a demonstration of how we could apply the BST formula to our line-up in the future.” The Polestar Concept BST features bespoke bodywork, finished in a classic motorsport silver, with muscular flared arches, extra wide track and 22-inch forged alloy wheels. An aerodynamically optimised bonnet, with its unique vented design, is framed by an aggressive front splitter. The motorsport theme continues at the rear with an extreme rear wing and a design completed by bespoke racing-livery-inspired graphics. Engineered alongside the Polestar 5 and using its bespoke bonded aluminium Polestar Performance Architecture (PPA) platform, the Polestar 6 will represent the pinnacle of the current Polestar lineup. Polestar 3 and Polestar 4 are available to order, with test drives of Polestar 3 underway and Polestar 4 slots starting shortly. That’s cool and all, but we’re sure the 6 is what people want.
