THE SUBLIME NEW MERCEDES‑MAYBACH SL MONOGRAM SERIES IS OPEN-TOP OPULENCE FOR THE 1%-ERS OF THE WORLD.

What happens when Mercedes takes its legendary SL roadster and gives it the Maybach treatment? You get this: the Mercedes-Maybach SL 680 - a two-seater that looks like it just rolled out of a Bond villain’s dream garage, dipped in chrome and stitched together with white leather and billionaire-grade intent. This isn’t just a luxury car. It’s a roofless monument to indulgence, packing proper performance under that sculpted bonnet. At its core, it's still an SL - a proper grand tourer with pedigree - but the Maybach version dials everything up to eleven. The heart of the SL 680 is a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 pushing out 430 kW through a silky-smooth 9-speed auto. Fully variable all-wheel drive and rear-axle steering mean this luxury land missile can actually dance through corners with proper precision - even if the person behind the wheel is wearing a tailored tux instead of racing gloves. It’s got the tech too: a semi-active suspension with hydraulic roll stabilisation replaces old-school anti-roll bars, smoothing out the worst of the road in milliseconds. Add softer springs, custom dampers, and specially tuned Pirelli rubber, and you've got a ride that soaks up bumps like a Rolls but still holds its own on the twisties. Let’s talk looks, because Maybach didn’t hold back. The SL 680 is available in two curated styles: “White Ambience” - a sleek black-on-white combo that looks like it belongs on a Monaco pier, and “Red Ambience” - a deep garnet red over black that screams luxury without trying too hard. There’s also an optional hood with a Maybach pattern that takes seven coats of paint, three rounds of sanding, and hours of handcrafted precision. You don’t need it, but damn, it’s cool to know it exists.

The signature grille has been reshaped into an A-style design - a first for Maybach - and it’s fully illuminated. Yep, the grille glows. The same treatment goes for the Maybach lettering. There's also chrome basically everywhere, a rose gold accent in the headlights, and 21-inch forged wheels to round things off. Inside, the Maybach SL 680 is wrapped in sustainably tanned crystal white Nappa leather - not just the seats, but across the console, door panels, and everything in between. It’s airy, it’s elegant, and somehow still practical thanks to lowered side bolsters for easier entry. Silver chrome trim and floral seat patterns complete the picture, with a cocoon-like cabin that blends supercar minimalism with old-money opulence. Despite all this glam, the tech stays subtle. Navigation, connectivity, and other digital features are tucked neatly out of sight, keeping the focus on craftsmanship rather than gimmicks. Let’s be honest - this isn’t aimed at you or me. But it’s the kind of car that fuels late-night YouTube binges and wishful build-your-own-configurator sessions. It’s also proof that even in the EV age, there’s still room for a fire-breathing V8 convertible dripping in chrome and stitched full of swagger. The Maybach SL 680 is equal parts speed, theatre, and handcrafted excess. It’s the kind of machine you park in front of a 5-star hotel, not just to arrive - but to announce yourself. There’s no word on pricing just yet, but this is one of those cases where if you have to ask the price, you’re not the target market.
