VIDEO: LAMBORGHINI HURACAN PERFORMANTE SPYDER – A $308 859 HAIR-REMOVAL KIT
Not happy to set blistering lap times without the wind blowing through your (possibly thinning) hair? Well, Lamborghini clearly had the same issue and decided to do something about it... meet the brand new Huracan Performante Spyder.
The Spyder is powered by the same naturally aspirated 5.2-litre V10 as its coupe sibling, which means 630 hp and 443 lb-ft of torque. Although there's a 276-pound weight gain, 62 mph in 3.1 seconds and a top speed of 202 mph is just fractions of a second off the coupe, which is nothing to be sneezed at.
The all-wheel-drive convertible supercar also receives Lamborghini’s active aerodynamics package, called ALA, which is basically some adjustable flaps up front that do voodoo with valves in the wing at the back, optimising drag and downforce for better performance depending on the driving conditions. It's very fancy.
Lamborghini claims 17 seconds to raise the roof at speeds up to 30 mph while they reckon, even with the top down, the Spyder is just as stiff as the coupe. Which is great, but I don't think anyone will care when they lay eyes on the Lambo, it is simply gorgeous.
As like most convertibles though, removing the roof adds extra moolah, a fair chunk in this case. In fact, in the U.S., the Performante Spyder will cost $308 859 – literally a Mazda MX-5 more than its hard-top sibling. Is it worth it? Well, if you have to ask yourself that question then you're probably better off with the MX-5 anyway.
