WANNA MAKE YOUR OWN BACK TO THE FUTURE MODEL? LOOKS GREAT BUT WOODEN WORK...

Would you call this carpentry or Car-pentry? Yeah, that’s a bit on the corny side, but you have to admit it works. We haven’t really seen much by way of carved models of cars here at SXdrv, besides the ones you can buy from the chaps at just about any set of traffic lights in Jo’burg’s northern suburbs. Theirs are cool and all, especially the articulated trucks, but this Back to the Future DMC12 Delorean that has recently been created over at Awesome Woodcraft is on a whole other level. The amount of detail that’s been included in the build is amazing. There are elements to the Back to the Future car that are quite intricate and you’d be forgiven for thinking that most of it couldn’t be replicated with wood, but if you have the right tools and the right skills, it looks like anything is possible with this medium.

The rear section of the Back to the Future Delorean is where things look like they can’t be done, and there are some little bits of plastic piping and some wires and plastic lugs that do well to replicate the things seen on the time-travelling car. What was quite the surprise to us was that the rest of the setup was all made from wood. The power unit, the rocket-style exhausts and even the Mr. Fusion powerplant that transforms any biological matter into energy to propel the car through time is there.

What’s also very impressive is how the car was created in sections, and detail was added where you wouldn’t expect. This decently-sized Delorean was literally built from the ground up, and it features many separate components that we didn’t think we’d see with wooden construction. The seats, gearbox tunnel and shifter, and the dashboard are all made from teeny bits of wood, and they’re not little shapeless lumps either, they look great. This is one of those projects that makes us want to go buoy a chunk of wood to turn into a classic 911 Porsche, but we know better and will leave it to the professionals.

Take a look at the YouTube video that shows how you can create your own wooden DMC12 Delorean model from Back to the Future - just be warned that however easy it looks on YouTube, it's likely going to take you weeks and you'll no doubt learn a whole new vocabulary of swearwords: How to make Delorean DMC12 (Back to the Future) Out of Wood | ASMR Woodworking | Awesome Woodcraft
