WANNA SEE HOW THE 500 KW SUBARU BRATAROO 9500 TURBO WAS CREATED?
The Subaru Brataroo 9500 Turbo is a high-flying, flame-belching, active-aero monster that revs to over 9,500 rpm and promises to make the next Gymkhana film the wildest one yet. It was recently unveiled at SEMA this year. The little 1978 Subaru Brat is a far cry from the OEM version. What you see here is a purpose-built stunt weapon engineered by Subaru Motorsports USA and Vermont SportsCar (VSC) to absolutely obliterate tarmac, dirt, and gravity itself, and mainly star in a long-awaited Gymkhana creation set in Australia. The Brataroo 9500 Turbo is every bit as chaotic as it sounds. Under that lightweight carbon-fibre skin is a 2.0-litre turbocharged boxer engine built by VSC that screams all the way through to 9,500 rpm while churning out a mighty 493 kW of power with a healthy 922 Nm of torque. It’s the highest-revving Gymkhana car ever built - a beaut of an engine mated to a six-speed SADEV sequential gearbox coupled with motorsport-spec differentials that feed Subaru’s legendary all-wheel-drive system. The chassis is a full VSC race-grade structure with a WRC-spec roll cage, wrapped in carbon-fibre bodywork shaped by none other than designer Khyzyl Saleem, a.k.a The Kyza. If you haven’t seen his socials, do yourself a favour and head on over there now. The design is pure 1970s nostalgia injected with modern aggression - the BRAT’s boxy silhouette stretched and sculpted into something that looks ready to become an online star.
We’ve already been treated to awesome images of the car, but now there’s footage of the build of the car, along with plans and prep work for the upcoming Gymkhana vid. It looks like it’s going to be a pretty damn rad one, but anything involving Pastrana and Gymkhana just will be. We also like that this looks to be part of a series, and that means when they’re done showing us the ins and outs of the project, things will culminate in the actual Aussie-style Gymkhana video.
