WHEEL AERO DISCS EXPLAINED: WHAT ARE THEY USED FOR?

What are wheel aero discs and what are they used for? Let's find out.

In performance car racing there is one major universal goal, and that is to go faster. And going faster might be several seconds per lap faster or it might be just a few milliseconds. Ever heard the quote, "it doesn't matter if you win by an inch or a mile, winning is winning." It is surprising how true that is.

If you have a look high-performance championship racing, each car needs to have a very similar specification and power output in order to keep the skill up to the drivers' ability. The performance difference is so slight from car to car, and every factor plays a vital role in your lap times.

At these performance levels, a huge influencing factor is aerodynamics. Wheels, however, usually disrupt the airflow over the streamline body design due to their high velocity rotating motion, the purpose of wheel aero discs are to control that wheel airflow, making the cars overall aerodynamics more effective and consistent at higher speeds.
