AUDI'S GRAN TURISMO LINEUP LUST GOT A WHOLE LOT JUICIER – ENTER THE NEW 'AFFORDABLE' E-TRON GT QUATTRO

Audi recently unleashed its first fully electric RS performance model - the new RS e-tron GT performance. A four-door coupé packing Audi’s cutting-edge tech and meticulous attention to detail, and it’s at the top of the model range. This flagship EV saloon set a new benchmark for the brand’s electric mobility, offering power, sportiness, and mad speeds in an instant. Under the hood, so to speak, the RS e-tron GT performance is equipped with a permanent-magnet synchronous motor (PSM) on the front axle, producing 252 kW, while the rear axle houses a newly developed PSM that churns out 415 kW. Thanks to Launch Control, the RS e-tron GT performance taps into its high-voltage battery and motors to boost output (briefly) up to a monstrous 680 kW. Audi also offers an innovative, wheel-selective active suspension system as an option. "Our focus was on increasing the balance between comfort and driving dynamics," says Carsten Jablonowski, Lead Engineer in Audi Driving Characteristics Development. The result is a ride that’s both smooth and agile, with steering precision improved for even more dynamic handling. Exclusive to the RS e-tron GT performance is the RS performance mode that’s tailored for high-speed circuits and tight, winding roads by optimising torque distribution, traction control, suspension settings, aerodynamics, and cooling. Performance mode holds the RS e-tron GT in its first gear longer, ensuring more aggressive acceleration and sharper throttle response. “Every element of the RS e-tron GT performance is carefully curated, from the carbon-fibre roof to the seat belts. This vehicle is a true design statement,” says Christopher Kröner, Colour & Trim Designer at Audi. “The use of carbon material here is multidirectional, meaning it shifts and changes depending on the viewing angle. It’s all about balance—sportiness meets elegance in a way that feels both agile and restrained depending on the light.” This version of the new Audi EV saloon is the range-topper, the one you buy when money is no object or you’ve secured a top-notch government tender. Luckily, Audi has just revealed a new version that they call a ‘base model’. That doesn’t mean it’s lacking, even though it’s trimmed down, it’s still a brilliant offering.

Positioned just below the S e-tron GT, RS e-tron GT, and the ballistic RS e-tron GT performance, the e-tron GT quattro still packs a punch. We’re talking up to 430 kW of system output with launch control, and a new 105 kWh battery that delivers a seriously impressive range of up to 622 km. Charging is proper fast. The base model can suck down electric juice at up to 320 kW, meaning you’ll gain roughly 285 km of range in just ten minutes. Audi’s smart thermal management system now gives you full charging power over a wider temperature range, and the clever e-tron route planner preps the battery en route to chargers for maximum efficiency. Design-wise, this thing oozes Audi GT DNA. Big wheels, long wheelbase, and that slippery 0.24 drag coefficient all shout performance, while keeping the cabin whisper-quiet. The front end rocks a body-coloured inverted Singleframe framed by a black mask, while the rear diffuser - complete with vertical fins. The roofline is the same as usual, sleek, swoopy, and pure Gran Turismo. Inside, it’s all about that low-slung, driver-focused vibe. The high-voltage battery is neatly integrated into the underbody, with clever cutouts providing ample foot space for rear passengers. Up front, 8-way adjustable sport seats with integrated headrests keep things comfy on long hauls. Need space for the weekend gear? You’ve got a 405-litre rear boot plus an extra 77 litres of frunk space for the overflow. Audi’s intelligent quattro system keeps things tidy, distributing torque between the axles in milliseconds for maximum grip and composure - rain, shine, or snow. The GT quattro also tips the scales around 30 kg lighter than the S model, making it sharper and more efficient without losing any of the premium polish. And the best bit? Pricing starts at €108,900, which puts it a solid €70,000 below the range-topping RS e-tron GT performance. That’s serious electric GT power with a whole lot of Audi finesse - for a fraction of the flagship price.
