BARBIE SET TO ROLL IN STYLE WITH THIS ULTRA-LIMITED EDITION MASERATI GRECALE
Brand name toys, like Barbie from Mattel, Inc have quite the history and fan base, and as a result they can be quite pricey. It would make sense then that if you linked a car brand to Barbie it would be exclusive and luxurious and so a collaboration with luxury Italian automaker Maserati makes perfect sense. Both brands are instantly recognisable and with the way they’ve been leaders of their respective industries, the collaboration will see the brands exposed to markets previously unexplored. As a base for this partnership Maserati offered up it’s new Grecale that in top-spec Trofeo trim, is equipped with the company’s 3.0-litre 'Nettuno' twin-turbocharged V6 petrol engine that produces 390kW and 620 Nm - and that’s the same spec that will be covered in Barbie’s iconic shade of pink. This is something that followers of the recent Barbiecore phenomenon will have on their want list, but only two Barbie fanatics in the world will have the opportunity to own one.
The Barbie Maserati Grecale, as an ultra-limited Fuoriserie edition will only see two units produced, one of which was unveiled at an annual Neiman Marcus event in LA. It was announced that the funds generated from the sales of the pair of pink SUVs would benefit the Barbie Dream Gap Project which is the Barbie brand’s global initiative that partners with charities to help provide equal opportunities and remove barriers for girls. The car was customised via Maserati’s Trident’s Fuoriserie customisation program, and adding to the pink paint we see fine acid-yellow lines, inspired by the Trident’s racing heritage. The paint has an iridescent topcoat and the resulting rainbow effect makes it even more of a Barbie car. The interior features pink accents and pink stitching on the leather panelling and a Barbie ‘B’ logo branded into the headrests.
Through to the end of March 2023, Mattel will donate ten percent of the sales price to the Barbie Dream Gap Project with the purchase of the Barbie x Maserati Grecale Trofeo SUV. The sales price is reportedly in the $330 000 region. We reckon they should have put the pair up for auction, some mad wealthy Barbie fanatic would pay millions for one.
