BMW'S NEW M2 CS IS A BEAST OF A THING WITH A NURBURGRING CLASS RECORD - NOW WATCH IT BLITZ THE GOODWOOD FOS HILL.

Say hello to the all-new BMW M2 CS - the compact coupe that's just ripped the script and written a whole new chapter in the M car playbook. Based on the second-generation M2, already a precision tool in its own right, the CS treatment transforms it into a stripped, sharpened, and seriously souped-up version built for one thing: maximum driving thrills. This isn’t just a flashier trim or a software tweak. It’s a full-blown, limited-edition homage to everything BMW M stands for - power, purity, and performance with zero compromise. Under that sculpted bonnet lives the now-familiar 3.0-litre twin-turbo inline-six, but in CS spec, it's had a proper wake-up call. Power’s up to a brutal 390 kW and 650 Nm of torque - 37 kW more than the standard M2 - putting it on par with the likes of the M3 and M4 Competition xDrive twins. But here’s the kicker: the M2 CS sends all that grunt exclusively to the rear wheels. No AWD trickery. No lifelines. Just raw, unfiltered rear-drive fury, delivered through BMW’s 8-speed M Steptronic transmission with Drivelogic. It’s a proper throwback to when driver engagement was king.

The go-fast hardware isn’t limited to engine tweaks, either. BMW M put the M2 CS on a carbon-rich diet. A liberal sprinkling of CFRP - that’s carbon-fibre-reinforced plastic to the science nerds - helps drop around 30 kg from the car’s total mass. The roof, bootlid, front splitter, and even key interior bits are carbon, all of it working together to lower the centre of gravity and dial in even sharper handling. Weight savings may sound like brochure fluff, but on track or a twisty pass, every gram shaved translates into more control and more pace.

Mechanically, it’s packing some serious motorsport DNA. The engine internals are straight out of BMW's GT3 development pipeline - we’re talking forged crankshaft, a sleeveless closed-deck block, 3D-printed cylinder head cores, wire-arc sprayed iron cylinder walls... This isn’t your average hopped-up coupe. The rev ceiling sits at a heady 7,200 rpm, and the throttle response is nothing short of telepathic. Even the engine mounts are unique to the CS, dialled in for better rigidity and feedback. It’s more than numbers - it’s about feel. And the M2 CS has feel by the bucketload.

Performance stats back up the hype: 0–100 km/h comes up in just 3.8 seconds, while 200 km/h flashes by in 11.7. It’ll rip from 80 to 120 km/h in a mere 3.4 seconds - perfect for those high-speed overtakes - and tops out at 302 km/h. If you’re into lap times, there’s this: the M2 CS just set the Nürburgring Nordschleife lap record for the compact class, clocking a properly wild 7:25.534. That’s not just fast - that’s properly fast. And now, for those wanting to see what all this translates to in the real world, BMW M has just dropped footage of the M2 CS letting loose at the 2024 Goodwood Festival of Speed. Amongst the madness of supercars, hypercars, and motorsport legends, this rear-drive Bavarian bullet made its presence known - loud, sideways, and unapologetically M. Hit play, turn it up, and hang on.
