EVASIVE MOTORSPORTS UNLEASHES MONSTROUS HYUNDAI IONIQ 5 N FOR THEIR 10TH PIKES PEAK ASSAULT.

For their milestone 10th entry at the world-famous Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, the crew at Evasive Motorsports is going bigger, badder, and faster than ever, electrifying the mountain with their most ambitious project to date. Teaming up with Hyundai, they’re taking on the 20 km, 156-turn ribbon of asphalt carved into the Colorado Rockies in a race-prepped 2025 Hyundai IONIQ 5 N - a machine that’s part family SUV, part technological sledgehammer, and now… a fully-fledged hillclimb monster. This is a no-compromise, high-voltage race effort aimed at breaking that mythical 10-minute barrier, a feat that only a handful of cars - let alone production electric ones - have managed. At the heart of this project lies Hyundai’s first full-on performance EV, the IONIQ 5 N - a dual-motor powerhouse delivering up to 478 kW and 770 Nm of torque thanks to its wild N Grin Boost feature.

But rather than just throwing stickers on a stock car and calling it a day, the Evasive team, led by co-founder Mike Chang, has been hard at work reengineering the platform from the ground up - sculpting the IONIQ 5 N into something worthy of the “Race to the Clouds.” With electric motors being untunable in the traditional sense, the team zeroed in on chassis dynamics, weight reduction, and aerodynamics - three crucial battlegrounds when it comes to wringing every last second out of a run up the mountain. The transformation began with a full interior strip-out and the fabrication of lightweight carbon fibre doors and a tailgate via their in-house EVS Tuning division, shaving a whopping 227 kg from the original 2,200 kg curb weight.

But the real magic is in the bodywork. Since the IONIQ 5 N is a fresh platform with little aftermarket support, Evasive had to go custom. That’s where Voltex Japan came in. Using 3D scans of the car, they remotely designed an aggressive aero package that looks as functional as it does menacing, complete with a front splitter, side skirts, underbody panels, flared fenders, and a massive rear wing built to generate serious downforce at altitude.

Under the skin, it’s all business. The IONIQ 5 N now rides on Moton coilovers specially developed by the suspension guru himself, Mike Kojima of MotoIQ, complemented by EVS Tuning prototype anti-roll bars for maximum chassis control. Grip comes courtesy of Yokohama A005 slicks wrapped around Titan 7 forged racing wheels, while Krontec air jacks have been integrated for lightning-fast pit stops and bodywork preservation. Inside the stripped-out shell sits a custom roll cage crafted by Eimer Engineering, ensuring safety and rigidity at full attack. Behind the wheel for the 2025 run is none other than Rob Walker, a seasoned Evasive driver who last competed with the team from 2013 to 2016, piloting the Scion FR-S and Toyota 86. Walker isn’t just along for the ride - he’s been living this project. After years of racing EVs and eyeing a fun electric daily, he ironically ended up buying a Hyundai IONIQ 5 N… before Evasive even contacted him. Talk about destiny. Since rejoining the team, Walker’s been busy logging time in a full sim rig to re-learn the Pikes Peak layout, despite the obvious limitations of not being able to replicate G-forces and vertical gain. But that’s not all. He’s also been using his personal IONIQ 5 N as a rolling testbed, experimenting with brake compounds, tire setups, and alignment tweaks, giving the team real-world data that can’t be faked in a simulator. With access to Hyundai’s Tesla Supercharger-compatible charging system, he’s been lapping Buttonwillow Raceway multiple times per session, pushing the car - and himself - to the edge.

Breaking the 10-minute mark on Pikes Peak isn’t just a bragging right - it’s a statement. It means you've built something special, driven to the absolute limit in one of the world’s most unforgiving motorsport challenges. Evasive Motorsports is gunning for that club, and they’re bringing all the lessons from their past EV projects - especially their Tesla Model 3 racer - to the party. And with a cutting-edge car, a finely tuned chassis, world-class engineering partners, and a wheelman with unfinished business on the mountain, this feels like more than just another Pikes Peak entry.
