EVS ARE ON A WARPATH SHATTERING ICE RECORDS - THE PININFARINA BATTISTA IS THE WORLD'S FASTEST ACCELERATING CAR.

The more we get to see testing of electric cars, the more we realise that when it comes to performance that ICE cars really do have their days numbered. Of course it’s the EVs that cost ridiculous amounts of money that are the ones setting records but even the affordable entry-level EVs can produce performance stats that easily rival range-topping hot hatches. Italian automaker Automobili Pininfarina recently revealed its electric hypercar, the Battista, at an event in Dubai at the amazing Dubai Autodrome race track. Not only was the electric hypercar revealed and tested, the results of the testing sent the car straight into the record books after claiming no less than 5 new World Records for acceleration performance. Thanks to the Formula 1-like electronics and traction control system, the Italian hyper GT is able to make the best use of its monstrous 1 417 kW and even more ridiculous 2 340 Nm of torque.

The Battista has a top speed of 350 km/h, and there are faster EVs like the Rimac Nevera that we recently saw hit a top speed of 412 km/h. 350 km/h is more than fast enough, but the Battista’s new claim to fame is how fast it can get to that speed. During the testing of the hyper EV it managed to bag world records in all the popular benchmark speed ratings that automakers use to let the motoring world know how fast their particular car is. In the Battista’s final round of homologation testing it set the following acceleration records:

  • 0-60mph in 1.79-seconds

  • 0-100km/h in 1.86-seconds

  • 0-120mph in 4.49-seconds

  • 0-200km/h in 4.75-seconds

  • 100-0km/h in 31 metres – A world record for an electric car

  • Range of 300 miles (combined EPA) – A world record for an electric hypercar

“I am proud that our new electric hyper GT delivers on the promises we made when we set out or development plan. In Battista, we have achieved performance beyond our original, extreme targets. Perfectly optimized weight distribution and low centre of gravity are at the heart of this result. The combination of bespoke chassis and suspension tuning, tyres proven over many thousands of test miles and four-motor torque vectoring delivering unprecedented power enables Battista to be the fastest accelerating road-legal car in the world. Battista’s incredible technical package includes a carbon ceramic brake system, helping the Italian hyper GT become the fastest braking electric car in the world. Our discerning clients here in the UAE have been overwhelmed by the Battista driving experience, which is as breathtaking as its award-winning design.” says Paolo Dellacha, Automobili Pininfarina Chief Product and Engineering Officer.
