HERE'S A BTS LOOK AT THE CREATION OF THE PORSCHE 911 SPORT CLASSIC, A MEMBER OF THE EXCLUSIVE HERITAGE COLLECTION
The limited edition 911 Sport Classic is the title of one of the cars destined for the exclusive four-car collection from Porsche’s Heritage Design strategy, two of which have been released so far in the planned 1250-unit production run. This offering for the exclusive collection follows the retro-classic-styled 997-based 911 Sport Classic that was released back in 2009. When they said the collection would be released over an extended period, they weren’t messing around. For this new 911 Sport Classic, designers took inspiration from the Fashion Grey paint seen on early 356 models. "The new 911 Sport Classic is the first vehicle to feature Sport Grey Metallic paintwork," says Michael Mauer, Vice President of Style at Porsche. "Grey is never boring, quite often a statement and always cool.” Over and above the paint, there are retro-style painted twin stripes running along the bonnet, roof and rear spoiler in Sports Grey, and there’s a fixed spoiler in the legendary 'ducktail' design, as seen on the classic Carrera RS 2.7. There’s a wider rear end and a double-bubble roof, a rather distinctive feature on the Sport Classic.
Many of us like limited edition cars, and many of us are quite partial to the Porsche 911 and what we have here is both in one. Because the latest Heritage build is based on the latest 911, it’s built in between other 911 models in Zuffenhausen and that means it’s not too much of a hassle to film the process of the creation. In a brilliant HD, the Porsche film crew has captured a small section of each aspect of the build of the car, enough to make a cool, short video. We’re addicted to build and production-run videos, and this one doesn’t disappoint. It always amazes us as to how clean these factories are, most hospitals here in SA wish they were as neat and clean as the Porsche factory.
