JERRY SEINFELD IS SELLING PART OF HIS PORSCHE COLLECTION

It’s safe to say Jerry Seinfeld has a passion for comedy; you don’t spend 10 years on the set of Seinfeld if you don’t. But as evidenced by his acclaimed Comedians in Cars Getting Coffeeseries, his true love is for the automobile…more specifically, Porsches.

Seinfeld has long been a major Porsche collector, however now it appears it’s time to free up a few of Stuttgart’s finest from his extensive collection. In an announcement from the Gooding & Company auction house, Seinfeld will put a selection of his Porsches up for sale at the firm’s Amelia Island event in March, though it’s unclear how many vehicles that entails.

Three of them are known however—a 1955 Porsche 550 Spyder, ’58 Porsche 356A, and ’74 Porsche 911 Carrera RSR—and these will go on display at Gooding’s upcoming Scottsdale Auction. The value? The auction house conservatively estimates the trio to be worth in excess of $8 million.

The earliest, a ’55 Porsche 550 Spyder, is also the most valuable with an auction estimate of between $5 million and $6 million. Only 90 of these 550 Spyders were built in total, and though they were blisteringly quick race cars, the 550 Spyder is most often associated with Hollywood superstar James Dean, who infamously died behind the wheel of his.

Seinfeld’s 1958 Porsche 356 A 1500 GS/GT Carrera Speedster is estimated to sell for upwards of $2.5 million, and it’s said to be one of only 13 painted in a rare Auratium hue.

Last but not least is Seinfeld’s 1974 Porsche 911 Carrera 3.0 IROC RSR, which is estimated to sell for between $1.2 and $1.5 million. These RSR race cars earned Porsche a landslide of racing wins in the ‘70s, and have cemented the 911’s dominance on track ever since. This one in particular was also driven by legendary racer Peter Revson in the inaugural International Race of Champions series. So why sell now? According to Jerry Seinfeld, it’s just a matter of having too many cars and not enough time.

“I don’t really even think of myself as a collector,” says Seinfeld. “I just love cars. And I still love these cars. But it’s time to send some of them back into the world, for someone else to enjoy, as I have.”

Looking to buy? The trio of Jerry Seinfeld Collection Porsches (and potentially more) will cross the auction block on March 11 in Amelia Island, Florida.
