NETFLIX'S SENNA SERIES IS A BIG BUDGET EXTRAVAGANZA - HERE'S SOME BTS ACTION.

Ayrton Senna is widely regarded as one of the greatest Formula One drivers of all time, for many reasons. The man had an astounding career in the sport of Formula One, starting with his debut with the Toleman in 1984. Despite driving a relatively uncompetitive car, he showcased his exceptional talent with impressive performances, including a second-place finish in a rain-soaked Monaco Grand Prix. In 1985 he moved to Lotus where he clinched his first Formula One victory at the Portuguese Grand Prix. Continuing to showcase his skills, Senna earned a few more pole positions and race wins over the next two seasons with the team, but it was in 1988 when he moved to McLaren that his career became legendary. It was with McLaren in 1988 that he won his first Driver’s World Championship, and he went on to do the same in 1990 and 1991. Senna's aggressive driving style and exceptional qualifying performances became legendary, earning him widespread respect. He left the team in 1994 to join the Williams team and was on track to do even more amazing things in his career. Sadly Senna was killed in an accident at the San Marino Grand Prix. Throughout his F1 career, Senna amassed 41 race victories, 65 pole positions, and three World Championships. While all of it was impressive, it was that 1988 season in the McLaren MP4/4 that helped with the man’s legendary status. At the hands of Senna, the MP4/4 won 15 out of 16 races, losing only the Monza Grand Prix after he collected backmarker Jean-Louis Schlesser's Williams-Judd in the first chicane. This amazing record was only matched in 2023 when Max Verstappen won 19 of 22 races. A few other drivers won 15 races in a season over the years though. That 1988 season cemented both Ayrton Senna and the McLaren MP4/4 as one of the most dominant Formula One cars in the history of the sport.

With this in mind, it makes sense that the man is still widely regarded as one of the best Formula One drivers in the history of the elite sport. When someone is so well known with a worldwide following, you just know that somewhere along the line Senna would become the subject of a Netflix documentary, series or a combined docu-series. That time is upon us, after many months of advertising and a massive awareness campaign, the limited series debuts on the pay channel on 29 November. We’re pretty sure it will move to the top of many of Netflix’s Top 10 lists in a short space of time and millions will long on to watch the first episode. Luckily it won’t be as many as for the Tyson vs Paul fight that crashed the systems though. With the movie covering Senna’s Formula One heyday, the producers had to put in a heck of a lot of work to make the series as faithful to the details as possible. A huge portion of the series is set in the 1980s, and that meant a lot of behind-the-scenes work. With this video, we get to see some of that very interesting behind-the-scenes work that saw production crews having to build no less than 22 race cars. Why so many? Well, the series documents Senna’s career, and so they needed a car from each team he raced for, along with competitor cars. With F1 fans being so detail-oriented, you know that these reproductions of classic racecars needed to be just right. This look into the process follows the design and production of these racecars, and it’s quite interesting to see. It also shows that when the need arises, Netflix doesn’t really have an issue with throwing a massive budget at the production of a series. The series stars Gabriel Leone (Senna), Kaya Scodelario, Matt Mella, Patrick Kennedy, Arnaud Viard, Steven Mackintosh, Camila Márdila, Marco Ricca, Susana Ribeiro and Gabriel Louchard.

Take a look at the YouTube video that we'd love to have been much longer, but it is what it is. It still shows off some epic behind-the-scenes footage of the cars created for the screen, along with a few filming techniques. This is a series we're gonna watch in one sitting, guaranteed: Senna | Making the Cars | Netflix | Still Wating Netflix
