Fast cars and expensive watches go hand in hand like YouTubers and blowing up K24 engines. The latest timepieces to hit the market come from a collaboration between German automaker Porsche and Swiss watchmaker TAG Heuer in celebration of the 1972 Porsche Carrera RS 2.7’s 50th anniversary. There have been loads of celebratory things coming from Porsche for this anniversary and we think this is one of the coolest. The colab has resulted in two amazing new chronographs based on the 42-mm TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph equipped with its most advanced movement, the in-house manufactured Calibre Heuer 02 that features 80 hours of reserve power. The oscillating mass has been customised to mimic Porsche’s 3-spoke steering. The watches are available in red and blue, each with a different reasoning behind the design.
The Sporty Blue Edition features a finely polished steel case, rhodium-plated indexes and hours and minutes hands give a nod to the car’s chrome door handles, mirrors, and window frames. The face is smooth white opalin, while the two sub-counters have an eye-catching snailed finish in Porsche’s design, the hands are blue lacquered as are the pushbuttons, shield logo on the crown and blue markings on the Calibre Heuer 02 oscillating mass. The right sub-counter design gives a nod to the Porsche wheels as well as the signature colour stripe - this version is limited to just 500 pieces. The Sporty Red Edition is even more limited at just 250 numbered examples with a refined 18K 5N rose gold case, here the shimmery white dial is framed with a Guards Red circular line and features rose-gold coloured applied indexes, permanent second indicator and hour and minute hands.
