A BRABUS / PORSCHE PROJECT RESULTS IN THE SUBLIME BRABUS 820 TURBO S COUPE
For many people, the factory specifications of the Porsche 911 Turbo S are more than adequate to most people. The R3 700 000 Porsche (option dependent) is more than enough car, at that price point you get a turbocharged 6-cylinder lump that creates a very healthy 478 kW (640 hp) with torque up at a powerful 800 Nm. This, together with all the clever on-board driver aid systems and a magic PDK transmission sees the Porsche 911 Turbo S able to launch to the benchmark 100 km/h mark in a mere 2.7-seconds and can gallop on to a top speed of a whopping 330 km/h - there are many reasons why this is one of the most aspired to Porsches in existence.
German tuning house Brabus is synonymous with tuning all manner of Mercedes-Benz models, particularly those wearing the AMG moniker. Sticking with some of Germany’s finest machinery, the outfit has turned its attention to Porsche and in particular the new Porsche 911 Turbo S. The company has released its upgrade kit for the car and its the quality you’d expect from them. In fact this Brabus 820 package was inspired by the same one developed for the Mercedes-AMG GLS 63. What we like most about this upgrade is that it also includes some tweaks to the engine and so the end result is a car with an improved visual upgrade with the bark to match the bite. In the case of this Porsche 911 Turbo S, the engine side of the package features quite an impressive increase in power with the base power of 478 kW (640 hp) rising to 603 kW (820 hp - hence the name of the package) and the associated torque figure rising from the aforementioned 800 Nm to 950 Nm.
Equally as important as the appropriate technology and facilities is an appropriate test pilot. Seasoned Porsche SuperCup driver Lance David Arnold took the wheel of the BRABUS 820, ensuring that every steering input made on the test track resulted in the most accurate and most reliable measurements. Going around Meppen’s iconic Race Park, the supercar’s general performance, its handling, suspension as well as its engine and tire behaviour were tested in detail – scoring exceptional results in all categories. "This is an all-purpose precision tool that just masters everything” commented Lance.
