THE SINGER VEHICLE DESIGN 930 TURBO STUDY IS PERFECTION ON WHEELS
Singer Vehicle Design has cemented itself as one of the top bespoke Porsche coachbuilders on the planet. The cars they’ve released over the years have been as close to motoring perfection as they could possibly create, and this has seen Singer-fettled Porsches rake in megabucks if they ever come up for sale. The cars that come out of Singer Vehicle Design are basically remanufactured from the ground up using a combination of old-school style and modern technologies and composites resulting in something very special. This latest slice of awesomeness is the company’s interpretation of an air-cooled, turbocharged 911, dubbed the Turbo Study.
“My first ever ride in a Porsche 911 as an 11-year-old in 1976 left me dry-mouthed and speechless – it was a black 930 Turbo with red tartan seats. Forty-five years on from that life-changing moment I’m excited to present the results of our study that aims to capture the awesome thrill of Porsche’s first ‘supercar’ while reimagining its performance and refinement and collaborating with owners to take both to new heights. I believe it’s a fitting tribute to a car that changed my life and many others.” comments Rob Dickinson, Founder and Executive Chairman, Singer Group Inc.
What you see here is the result of Singer’s expertise, the reimagining of the 964 930 Turbo is the best you’re ever likely to see. This amazing shade of Wolf Blue covers carbon fibre bodywork to both strengthen and lighten the overall package. There’s a twin-turbocharged 3.8-litre flat-six in play with more than 450 hp on tap (although this can vary depending on the customer’s wants and needs) that’s mated to a 6-speed manual transmission directing power to the rears. There is an option for an all-wheel drive setup too, as seen in 2014’s AWD Classic Study restoration. The cabin features Malibu Sand with Black Forest wood accents, and it works great with the overall package, but again, there are options to make it even more unique, budget dependent.
For those keen to see and hear the results of the Turbo Study in person, the car will be running at Goodwood Festival of Speed in the UK from 23-26 June, 2022. It will then travel to the Monterey Peninsula in Northern California for Car Week in August 2022.
