THE AMALGAM 1:8-SCALE FERRARI SF90 XX TWINS ARE R320,000 BITS OF AWESOME.
Model cars are big business, and have been for pretty much as long as cars have been around. As with full-sized cars, they come in various sizes and qualities and are made from a variety of materials. The most expensive ones are usually the most detailed ones, and the prices can even rival that of full-sized daily drivers. One of the world’s top model car companies is called Amalgam, and the company specialises in scale replicas of some of the world’s most exclusive brands, under licence of course. Since 1985, the company has developed close partnerships with the world’s most iconic designers, engineers, drivers and manufacturer brands. They have created models for private use, commercial use and also some special one-off models to commemorate a special occasion or car model. Last year we showed you the company’s 1:8 Ferrari 296 GTS that formed part of the high-end amalgam Collection. The model had over 3,000 hours of development with 300 hours of assembly time, and as usual, it was created using Ferrari’s original CAD designs and paint codes. The end result retailed for a quarter of a million Rand. The next amazing one added to the exclusive lineup was the Ferrari 499P. Made in the same way with all the proper Ferrari measurements and colours, this stunning limited edition 1:8-scale model After Ferrari’s No.51 race-spec hypercar was taken to a 24 Hours of LeMans victory in 2023 by Alessandro Pier Guidi, James Calado and Antonio Giovinazzi, the car cemented its legendary status. The 1:8 scale model is one of those that will be coveted by the most elite of model car collectors, and much like the real-life version, it’s sure to appreciate. This one was listed at around R375,000. Just after that, the all-new Ferrari 12Cilindri Coupe was released, at a mere R443,000.
We’ve seen any of these exclusive Amalgam models online, and have also had the opportunity to see a couple in the metal, and the 499P is an absolute marvel that set the bar very high. One car that was released a while back also deserves attention, mainly because we think the SF90 XX Stradale is one of the best-looking modern Ferraris, and it makes the new F80 look lame. The SF90 XX Stradale and SF90 XX Spider have been made available in the large 1:8 scale, and they feature all the design updates using the aforementioned CAD data. On that note, the data is obviously confidential, can you imagine if one of those far Eastern companies hacked the Amalgam servers, they’d have the full blueprints to create a copycat version? These SF90s have been limited to a total of 799 pieces, and they too have 300 hours of building going into each model. The 1:8 scale means they’re a large 60 cm in length. Check the quality in the attached video, it’s mind-blowing. If you used the right lens and camera settings, and someone with the right skills created a diorama background, you likely wouldn’t be able to tell the difference between the Amalgam model and the real deal. As mentioned above, these are easily the best quality models on the planet - if you know of a brand that can match this quality, drop us a line and show us - and the prices reflect that. In the case of the SF90 twins, they retail at $18,220, and there are shipping fees on top of that, which in our pathetic currency equates to roughly R322,000. How do people insure these things? Can you imagine an insurance claim? The investigators will want to see where your half-a-million Rand car was parked, and you lead them to a shelf in the bar. Oke will kak himself on the spot. These SF90 twins have jumped to the 2nd spot on the coolest Amalgam Ferraris list, the 499P is still boss.
Take a look at the YouTube video that shows off the exquisite details of the amazing 1:8 scale models of the Ferrari SF90 twins. Can you imagine shelling out three-quarters of a million Rand to own the pair? Some people will happily for that over, which is quite a scary thought: Ferrari SF90 XX Stradale & Spider - Revealing the Art in the Cars | Amalgam Collection
