THE MANHART MH3 400D IS THE BMW G20 M340D WITH AN AMAZING MAKEOVER.

When it comes to vehicle transformation, MANHART Performance is renowned for its exploits with sportscars and range-topping models, and 95 % of the time these cars are petrol-powered. This time, they've set their sights on an unexpected contender in the BMW lineup - the big daddy diesel model of the G20 3-Series, the M340d. After all was said and done, the 340d has become the MH3 400d that sports a bit more power and some stunning visuals. At the heart of the M340d lies a 3.0-litre straight-6 engine, already generating a healthy 340 hp with typically high torque rated at 700 Nm in its standard guise. MANHART Performance decided to push the boundaries even with their proven MHtronik powerbox that allows a retune of the engine. This results in an impressive 380 hp with even more torque that’s grown by 70 Nm to 770 Nm. The MH3 400d emits an alluring growl, amplified by MANHART's rear silencer with valve control and four sizeable 90 mm tailpipes, ensuring an unmistakable diesel soundtrack on the streets. We have seen local tuners pull more power out of these cars, but when you’re rolling out a package that could be sold worldwide, things need to be a little more conservative to ensure the reliability stays as BMW intended.

Step outside the G20 and you're greeted with an updated appearance that includes MANHART's signature silver and red stripes, the decal set is a great contrast to the sleek black body, setting the MH3 400d apart from the crowd. Adding to the allure, carbon add-on parts from the M Performance range with a new front spoiler lip, a boot lid, and a rear diffuser all help accentuate the car's already noise lines and curves. The crowning glory comes in the form of MANHART's in-house Concave One wheels, with five double spokes and a matt black finish, these wheels are amazing. They measure in at 9x20 up front with wide 10.5x20 at the rear axle, and have been wrapped in 255/30ZR20 and 275/30ZR20 tyres respectively. The MH3 400d is lower than the stocker M340d courtesy of a set of H&R springs that lower the ride height by 40 mm on the front axle and 30 mm on the rear. Not only dies it improve the visual, but that slight lowering of the car’s centre of gravity also translates into improved handling dynamics. Inside, the factory M sports seats are elevated to new heights with a carbon cover on the upper area of their backshells, and we all know carbon fibre in the cabin makes you feel like you’re the next Stig. MANHART also added in carbon shift paddles and illuminated MANHART door sills. There’s no word on pricing for the kit, but when MANHART is involved, it won’t be cheap. That’s the carbon fibre way.

Take a look at the YouTube video that shows off and discusses all the details and changes carried out on the mid-level BMW M340d in the G20 series to take it from a mild diesel-powered car to a head-turning beast with all the right changes in all the right places. Would you spend Manhart money on a diesel BMW or would you only fork that kind of mad cash out on a petrol-powered car?
