THE MUSTANG MACH-E IN ERUPTION GREEN WITH THE BRONZE APPEARANCE PACKAGE IS A PROPER LOOKER!
When the Ford Mustang Mach-E GT was first revealed, Mustang fanatics the world over were more than a little upset. The world’s best-selling sportscar has millions of fans the world over, and to at least 90% of them, a Mustang must have a 5.0-litre V8 under the hood for it to be a real Mustang. Many even have issues with the Mustangs on offer with the smaller powerplants like the turbocharged 2.4-litre 4-cylinder. Even though it’s the same powerplant found in the popular and fast Focus RS and is more easily tunable than the Daddy 5.0, they believe it has no place in a Mustang. So as you can imagine, news of an electric version already had many upset, and then when images of the car were seen and it looked nothing like the Mustang we all know, it became the target of much online hate. Purist thoughts aside, the Mustang Mach-E is actually quite a beast of a car. The electric version of the Mustang has a completely different body shape, it’s more SUV than sportscar, but it does have a front end that uses styling based on the original sportscar. We quite like the looks, it does work. It also helps that it’s stupendously powerful with a healthy 358 kW of electric power on tap that can propel the new-age Pony Car to the benchmark 100 km/h mark in just 3.7 seconds if you take the range-topping option. Towards the end of last year, Ford SA announced that the Mustang Mach-E would be making its way to SA by 2025. As Elena Ford, Chief Dealer Engagement officer, Ford Motor Company said: “This is a momentous occasion as we celebrate Ford’s Centenary in South Africa. From humble beginnings that established Ford in South Africa in November 1923, our team and facilities here have grown into a world-class operation that delivers the highest-quality vehicles to our customers in South Africa and around the world. It reinforces our family-company beliefs and values that continue to guide our business and are a source of pride for the families who have worked here for generations, the dealers who have been the face of the brand for decades, and our loyal customers who embody the enthusiasm for the Blue Oval.”
To whet local appetites, check out this new limited edition visual package that’s about to be made available in the good old US of A. It’s called the Bronze Appearance Package and it certainly does make the car much easier on the eyes. First, there are some cool new standard features for the GT model like a MagneRide Damping System for optimal handling performance, 385-millimeter front brake discs with red Brembo calipers and Ford Performance front seats with a 10-Way power driver’s seat. As for the visuals for the Bronze Appearance Package, the list of changes includes 20-inch Sinister Bronze painted alloy wheels, eye-catching Mustang “Mach-E 4X” door badges, a rear GT Badge outlined in Sinister Bronze, and a bold bronze mesh front grille. This package is available for a few different body colours, the ones that properly contrast the new add-ons, like Shadow Black, Star White Metallic Tri-Coast and the latest addition to the colour palette - Eruption Green. That’s the one that you can see in the images, and it gets the SXdrv seal of approval. While this option may have fallen away by the time the Mustang Mach-E arrives in SA, it does a good job of setting the tone for the things that may be done to local models to make them a little more special than the regular mass-produced showroom models. It won’t be cheap though, in the US this package on the Mustang Mach-E GT AWD with Extended Range starts at $60,990, which is as near as damn to R1,200,000.
