VIDEO: THE 2016 DAYTONA 500 WAS THE CLOSEST FINISH IN DAYTONA HISTORY.

So far, 2016 has already been a nail-biting year of racing. The Rolex 24 at Daytona saw a photo finish less than a second apart between two Corvettes. Now, the Daytona 500 narrowed that margin of difference even slimmer—just .011 seconds between first and second.

At the end of the day, Denny Hamlin came out on top. It’s the first Daytona 500 win for the 10-year veteran, the first win for Toyota at the 500, and a hell of a start to the 2016 Nascar season. But it wasn’t all bright lights and big trophies for everyone on the track.

Pole sitter (and Jeff Gordon replacement) Chase Elliott had an early setback with a spinoff into the grass, as did his teammate Dale Earnhardt Jr. late in the race while moving up towards the front of the pack. By that .011 second margin, Truex Jr. finished in second, and not far behind was Kyle Busch, who led 19 laps of the race. Previous 500 winner Joey Logano finished in a respectable sixth.

It’s a great start to the season for any NASCAR fan. The cars will be back at it again next weekend in Atlanta, Sunday, February 28th.
