VIDEO: THE LEGENDARY LAMBORGHINI COUNTACH WALTER WOLF LP400!
Walter Wolf, the Austrian-born Canadian business tycoon and owner of the Wolf Racing F1 Team, bought several Lamborghini's over the years, at one point he even considered buying the factory to save it. But who cares, right? Well, you should. You see, Wolf became famous for his 'special' Countach, and for that, we should all rejoice.
Unhappy with the Countach upon its delivery, Wolf got in touch with Lamborghini and requested a few, er... alterations, including those flared wheel arches and massive rear wing. And so the iconic shape of that we all know and love came to being. He became famous for his 'special' Countach's, he had three of them made – all of them with varying degrees of modifications, the last of which designed with a 5.0-Litre engine that became the staple for the LMP400S production vehicles.
In 1974 Wolf received his first 'customised' Countach; a bright red LP400, then in 1976 Wolf bought his second Countach – the car you can see in the video below. This Countach was modified similar to his first car but sporting 4.8 Litres of V12 muscle. It included custom sized Pirelli rubber, larger brakes, revised suspension and steering.
The car was finished in a brilliant Bugatti light-blue, with natural leather upholstery, gold coloured wheels and pin stripping. The wheel-arch extensions were black and the car also features Walter Wolf signets and the Canadian flag.
Although all the production units were sold after 1978's Geneva Motor Show, it's rumoured that the 'Wolf's Specials' remained Lamborghini property and never owned by Wolf himself. Either way, every petrolhead should give thanks to this grand engineer because, basically, without him, his knowledge, and his money Lamborghini would have never survived!
Take a look at a piece of history in the video below.
