WHERE DOES THE PENALTY MONEY GO IN FORMULA 1?

Over the last 2 weeks of the 2021 Formula 1 season, there has been a lot of debates and talks around penalties in the sport after Red Bull Formula 1 driver Max Verstappen for fined Є50,000 for quite literally touching Lewis Hamilton's rear wing after the Grand Prix.

But what exactly happens to this money?

The FIA have strict rules in place about safety and private data that is owned exclusively by the teams and anyone caught violating these rules may be subjected to a fine which could range anywhere between a few hundred Euro's right through to a maximum of Є250,000.

The money due to the FIA in the event of a fine is collected by the respective racing team, and it is the teams responsibility and decision whether or not to claim that money from the driver themselves or a portion thereof.

Failing to pay fines to the FIA within 24 hours can result in disqualification from the championship.
