WHY ARE THERE NO SOLAR PANELS ON A TESLA?
Have you ever wondered why there are no solar panels on a Tesla?
Before Tesla became mainstream like it is today, there were a couple of electric cars on the market already, such as the American Fisker Karma. These came standard with a solar roof to salvage some energy from the sun, which can power some features such as interior lights and the car's infotainment system.
This sounds like a fantastic idea, but then you'd assume that arguably the most well established fully electric car brand on the planet would also have adopted solar panels on the roof. Especially considering Tesla's sister company, The Boring Company, specialise in the research and development of solar panels.
However, Tesla CEO, Elon Musk, has already addressed this question and stated that solar panels on the roof of a car "will not be that helpful, because the actual surface of the car is not that much, and cars are often inside. The least efficient place to put solar is on the car".
