WHY DO THE NEW 2022 FORMULA 1 CARS HAVE WHEEL COVERS?

At the final Formula 1 race weekend held at Abu Dhabi towards the end of last year, you might have spotted a few Formula 1 teams trying out the new larger 18 inch wheels during post-season testing. But other than the bigger size and higher profile tyres, did you notice something rather strange about them? The new 2022 Formula 1 wheels will feature wheel covers as well. But what exactly are they used for?


These new and innovative wheel covers will serve the purpose of directing air into the brakes for maximum cooling as this is proving to be of utmost importance with the new design.


Furthermore, there has been sufficient evidence provided that shows that these new wheel covers will also provide better aerodynamics as well.
