HARLEY QUINN GOES GREEN AND BOOSTS NISSAN’S NEW FORMULA E

That's not quite what you would expect from a “Suicide Squad" super-villain but actress, Margot Robbie – who also starred alongside Leonardo DiCaprio in “The Wolf of Wall Street” and cracked an Academy Award nomination for playing Tonya Harding in “I, Tonya” – has done just that.

The Aussie actress is Nissan’s electric vehicle and sustainability ambassador as it enters the realm of Formula E, launching their kick-off tour in Southern California recently.

“I’ve already seen many of Nissan’s initiatives, designed to bring cleaner air to roads and fairer access to power across the globe. And now, we have this – a fantastic new Formula E car,” said Robbie.

“I’m excited to see how it will help Nissan develop its EV offering further and bring new and exciting technologies to communities across the world.”

It's not just the Formula E Nissan that's got her chuffed, in recent videos, she's plugged Nissan's Leaf EV too, expressing her happy ownership experience.

Back to the racing car though, and Nissan's head of EV products, Ana Paola Reginatto, explains the livery was designed by Nissan’s Global Design team while adding that Nissan is the first Japanese manufacturer to enter the formula.

“Its heart is full of green energy and our Formula E car was made for the future,” Reginatto said.

Nissan first revealed its EV race car at the Geneva Motor Show before making its U.S. debut at the 2018 New York Auto Show last month.

Not short of important facts, Nissan’s global motorsport director, Michael Carcamo, reminded everyone that the company’s been working with electric vehicles for the past 70-years.

He said, “Entering the ABB FIA Formula E Championship gives Nissan a key development platform for our EV technologies.

“Using the same streets that our Leaf customers also commute on as race tracks has real benefits for customers – we’ll be able to take on real road conditions with our race cars – and we can share what we’ve learned as we tune our latest electric vehicles.”

Carcamo confirmed that the EV has a top speed of 155 mph while the new 54 kW battery pack offers almost double the range of last seasons 24 kW ones. This translates to one car per race instead of two – which seems better.

The Formula E series travels to New York, Paris, Berlin, Rome, Zurich, and Hong Kong when the fifth season begins at the end of the year.

Nissan will be holding thumbs that the many talents of Margot Robbie will be channelled into their electric blood.
