2019 DODGE HELLCAT REDEYE VS CHEVY CAMARO ZL1 1LE – TRACK BATTLE
Two of America's favourite muscle cars go head-to-head to see which is faster in a drag race and around a track. This is the 2019 Dodge Hellcat Redeye vs Chevy Camaro ZL1 1LE.
Every time a new American muscle car rolls off the production line, the rest of the world immediately speculates about the possibility of it actually going around corners. It may be a cliche dating back to when they were poor at doing that, but it is now a challenge for motoring journalists to put to the test.
We join James and Thomas from Throttle House on YouTube as they pit the 2019 Dodge Hellcat Redeye against the Chevy Camaro ZL1 1LE. First up, a drag race, followed by a bit of drifting and, finally, lap times around their short track on a sunny day in Canada.
First up is the Hellcat, with its 6.2-litre HEMI SRT V8 engine that receives a Hulk-smash worth of extra boost from the largest supercharger ever fitted to a production car. It pumps out 717bhp to its rear wheels through an eight-speed transmission and will happily turn its rubber paws into eleven's down the road all day long.
Lining up next to the Challenger is the Chevy Camaro ZL1 1LE. It may only pump out 650bhp from its supercharged V8, which isn't enough to take its competitor in a straight line, but it's fitted with an aero package that makes things interesting. Yup, this Camaro lapped the Nurburgring in an impressive seven minutes, 16 seconds.
So, it's game on and time to put them to the test. Traditional brute force versus a more balanced and thoughtful package. Will old-school thinking trump science or is America finally entering the 21st century? Let's find out in the video below.
