2026 JEEP RECON: THE ELECTRIC OFF-ROAD BRUISER THAT ISN’T AFRAID TO GET DIRTY
Jeep’s charging head-first into the future with the 2026 Jeep Recon — the world’s first fully electric Trail Rated SUV. This isn’t some mild-mannered EV crossover wearing a Jeep badge; this is a purpose-built, electrified adventure machine that delivers the brand’s legendary 4x4 spirit with instant torque and zero tailpipe drama. Built on a clean-sheet electric platform, the Recon packs 650 hp, 620 lb-ft of shove and a 0–60 mph time of 3.6 seconds. Range? Up to 250 miles, depending on trim, and every mile can be tackled with full-time electric 4x4, Jeep’s Selec-Terrain modes and all the trail toys you’d expect. An EDM at each axle delivers the power, with smart gearing, torque multiplication for the Moab trim, an electronic rear locker and proper off-road geometry (34° approach, 34.5° departure, 23.5° breakover). Steel underbody armour, 33-inch rubber and 9.4 inches of ground clearance mean it’s not just playing dress-up - this thing is built to take hits.
The Recon looks every bit the electric Jeep of the future: illuminated seven-slot grille, chunky proportions, removable doors and glass (no tools!), open-air roof options and a Wrangler-style rear spare. Inside, it’s rugged-meets-refined with modular storage, a chunky grab handle, a dash-mounted accessory rail for cameras and toys, recycled materials and a desert-inspired Joshua Tree interior on the Moab. There’s heaps of space, a front trunk, and a killer Alpine audio system designed to keep the tunes pumping even when the doors are off. Tech takes a massive leap forward, too, with more than 26 inches of screen real estate split between a 12.3-inch cluster and a monster 14.5-inch touchscreen running Uconnect 5. Add in the new Trails Offroad app, EV-specific range mapping, Alexa integration and all the connected goodies, and you’ve got the most high-tech Jeep ever. Production kicks off early next year in Toluca before the Recon takes its electric trail show around the world.
Take a look at the YouTube video that shows off the rather cool-looking Jeep Recon that's gone all-electric. Will it arrive in SA? Likely not, but it's still cool: All-New 2026 Jeep® Recon | Jeep
