INFINITI QX80 R-SPEC: THE 1,000-HP MONSTER SUV THAT SHOULDN’T EXIST - BUT DOES - AND THAT MAKES US HAPPY!
When the engineers at INFINITI decided to build something for SEMA 2025, they clearly left their restraint back at HQ. The result is the INFINITI QX80 R-Spec, a 1,000 hp, twin-turbocharged brute that turns the brand’s flagship luxury SUV into a street-legal science experiment in excess. It’s loud. It’s raw. And it’s got GT-R DNA pulsing through every vein. The R-Spec started life as a luxury cruiser - the new-gen QX80 - before INFINITI’s engineers ripped out its refined heart and transplanted something far nastier. Sitting under that sculpted hood is a heavily re-engineered 3.8-litre twin-turbo V6 from the legendary Nissan GT-R R35, tuned within an inch of its life to produce a staggering 1,000 horsepower, that cool 735 kW mark. Custom turbos, intercoolers, manifolds, and an uprated fuel system let it breathe fire. A MOTEC brain keeps everything in line, while a custom flex-fuel setup and CNC-milled transmission adapter tie the whole madness together. It’s a proper Frankenstein build - but one that purrs like a GT-R and snarls like a dragster.
“This is what happens when our engineers take the guardrails off,” says Tiago Castro, Vice President of INFINITI Americas. “We wanted to see how far we could push the QX80’s DNA. The R-Spec is proof that luxury and lunacy can live in the same garage.”
A thousand horses need serious control, and the R-Spec’s chassis has been dialled in to match the power. The suspension is a full MCS three-way coilover system with Eibach springs and custom steering geometry. The brakes are borrowed straight from the GT-R R35, upgraded carbon-ceramic monsters clamping down behind 24-inch bronze wheels wrapped in 315-section Yokohama PARADA Spec-X rubber. Grip levels? Unreal. Stopping power? Brutal. Handling? Far sharper than any SUV this size has any right to be.
Visually, the QX80 R-Spec hits as hard as its spec sheet. The wide-body kit is sculpted, functional, and completely outrageous - lower, wider, and meaner than anything INFINITI’s ever shown before. The entire build is finished with a colour-shifting Midnight Purple wrap, a direct homage to the GT-R T-Spec Takumi Edition and the legendary R34 and R35 GT-Rs that made the hue famous. Every detail - from the diffuser and splitter to the exhaust finishers and badging - connects the dots between INFINITI’s luxury philosophy and Nissan’s performance legacy. The result is a visual mic-drop: part luxury yacht, part street weapon. Despite the mechanical chaos underneath, this is still a QX80 - a name that’s already redefined what a full-size luxury SUV can be. The 2025 model year introduced a brand-new platform, a SPORT grade, and a design language that’s earned global recognition - from an IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK+ to Best New Interior awards and even a Popular Science Best of What’s New nod. The R-Spec build just cranks that prestige up to 11. It’s proof that INFINITI’s flagship can go from red-carpet comfort to tyre-shredding mayhem without losing its soul.
The build sheet from another dimension

The QX80 R-Spec is pure SEMA - absolutely unnecessary in the best possible way. It’s not a production preview (yet), but it shows INFINITI still knows how to dream big and build wild. If this is where the brand’s headed, luxury’s about to get a serious attitude adjustment.
Take a look at the YouTube video from Raiti as he takes a closer look at the monstrous QX80 R-Spec - this thing is properly mad, and the way it defies logic is a selling point - this needs to move from concept to production, stat: The 2026 Infiniti QX80 R-spec is the Performance SUV of the Year | Raiti's Rides
