BMW M HYBRID V8 – NOW FEATURING YELLOW-TINT HEADLIGHTS TO LIGHT THE WAY TO DAYTONA GLORY

BMW’s latest Le Mans and IMSA weapon, the M Hybrid V8, is about to stretch its legs at the legendary Daytona International Speedway - and this time, it’s bringing some seriously cool upgrades. The test marks a big moment for BMW M Team WRT, as the Belgian squad makes its IMSA debut after two hard-fought seasons in the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC). The mission was to fine-tune the 2026-spec M Hybrid V8 before it lines up for the brutal 24 Hours of Daytona in January - and show off some slick new design tweaks while doing it. You’ve seen the M Hybrid V8 before - BMW’s first top-class endurance racer in decades - but this update makes it leaner, meaner, and sharper than ever. The aero work is all about precision: smaller kidney grilles to improve airflow and reduce drag, a revised front splitter to optimise cooling for those endless night stints, and the pièce de résistance - a brand-new headlight design straight out of BMW M’s high-performance playbook. It’s not just for show, either. These new track lights blend cutting-edge tech with unmistakable BMW identity. They flood the tarmac ahead with powerful, crisp illumination - a massive advantage during the long, dark endurance races at Daytona, Le Mans, Sebring, and Petit Le Mans.

Those striking yellow headlights are a direct nod to BMW M’s current lineup of beasts. You’ll find the same yellow hue on the headlights of the BMW M3 CS, M4 CS, and M5 CS, and even on the EVO-spec M4 GT3 and M4 GT4 race cars. It’s a signature that screams Motorsport pedigree. The yellow tone has become BMW M shorthand for performance with a purpose - an aggressive, unmistakable visual cue that says: “I’m here to race.” And because this is BMW, they didn’t stop there. The M Hybrid V8’s kidney grille now glows with the brand’s signature Iconic Glow lighting, tracing the contours of the grille at night. Imagine a 640 hp prototype howling past you in the dark, those glowing kidneys slicing through the night like some kind of mechanical predator.

BMW M doesn’t play small when it comes to driver talent. The test roster reads like a who’s who of endurance racing elite: Philipp Eng, Robin Frijns, Kevin Magnussen, René Rast, Dries Vanthoor, and Marco Wittmann. Six absolute weapons, all taking turns taming the twin-turbo V8 hybrid beast over two days of flat-out testing. Between them, you’ve got everything from Formula 1 grit to DTM titles and Le Mans experience - the kind of mix you want when you’re developing a car that’s supposed to battle the likes of Porsche, Cadillac, Toyota, and Ferrari. The upcoming Daytona test is a true cross-continent collaboration. BMW’s long-time IMSA partner, BMW M Team RLL, will work hand-in-hand with BMW M Team WRT to help the Belgians get fully up to speed with IMSA’s unique rhythm.

BMW M Motorsport boss Andreas Roos summed it up best: “I’m very excited that we can present and test the update of our BMW M Hybrid V8 at Daytona for the first time in the IMSA environment. The new design and headlights not only look spectacular but are also intended to further optimise performance. We will work hard on this during the test at Daytona, as well as in January during the Roar.”

Underneath the sculpted carbon and glowing lights, the BMW M Hybrid V8 remains a savage bit of engineering. The hybrid powertrain combines a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 with an electric motor for a combined system output hovering around 470 kW, channelled through a seven-speed sequential gearbox.

Take a look at the YouTube video that doesn't show off the new headlights for the night section of the upcoming WEC race, but it does show the recent aero changes to the car that will help it get to the front so no one gets blinded from the headlights from behind: BMW M Hybrid V8 LMDh - Aero Update 2026 - CLOSER LOOK | B Sport
